JVBI was established with the inspiration of Acharya Tulsi, the 9th Head of the Jain Svetambar Terapanth religious sect, in Ladnun, Dist Nagaur, Rajasthan.
In March 1991, Government of India notified JVBI as "Deemed University" under Section 3 of University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The Institute continues to be housed in the common campus of its parent body organization Jain Vishva Bharati. Acharya Tulsi remained its first constitutional Anushasta (moral and spiritual guide) followed by Acharya Mahapragya as its second Anushasta. Acharya Mahashraman is its present Anushasta.
The institute is in Ladnun, in Nagaur District of Rajasthan. This university is "A" grade Accredited by NAAC affiliated to UGC,AICTE,BCI and MHRD

Virachand Raghavji Gandhi was a Jain scholar who represented Jainism at the first World Parliament of Religions in 1893. A barrister by profession, he worked to defend the rights of Jains, and wrote and lectured extensively on Jainism, other religions, and philosophy.
Acharya Bhikshu (1726–1803) was the founder and first spiritual head of the Swetambar Terapanth sect of Jainism.
Acharya Shri Mahapragya (14 June 1920 – 9 May 2010) was the tenth head of the Svetambar Terapanth order of Jainism. Mahapragya was a saint, yogi, spiritual leader, philosopher, author, orator, and poet.
Avadhānaṃ is a literary performance popular from the medieval era in India. Avadhānaṃ was originated and primarily cultivated among Telugu poets. It involves the partial improvisation of poems using specific themes, metres, forms, or words. The true purpose of an Avadhanam event thus is the showcasing, through entertainment, of superior mastery of cognitive capabilities - of observation, memory, multitasking, task switching, retrieval, reasoning and creativity in multiple modes of intelligence - literature, poetry, music, mathematical calculations, puzzle solving etc.
Ladnu, also Ladnun, is a city and a municipality, nearby Nagaur city in Nagaur district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is a Tehsil headquarters of Nagaur district. This city is famous as the birthplace of sacred Jain Aacharya Tulsi. It is the city of Jain temples and one of the most visited pilgrim places of Jain community after Shri Mahaveer ji. Ladnun is also home to the Jain Vishva Bharati University, several Jain temples with extensive marble work, Ramanand gaushala and other old temples of religious and architectural importance. Places within 15–20 km of Ladnun include Tal chhapar, Dungar Balaji, Salasar Balaji Dham, Tirupati Balaji at Sujangarh,Bhairav Baba Mandir at Bader village. Ladnun is also famous for cotton sarees.
Jain meditation (dhyāna) has been the central practice of spirituality in Jainism along with the Three Jewels. Jainism holds that emancipation can only be achieved through meditation or Shukla Dhyana. According to Sagarmal Jain, it aims to reach and remain in a state of "pure-self awareness or knowership." Meditation is also seen as realizing the self, taking the soul to complete freedom, beyond any craving, aversion and/or attachment. The practitioner strives to be just a knower-seer (Gyata-Drashta). Jain meditation can be broadly categorized to the auspicious and inauspicious. The 20th century saw the development and spread of new modernist forms of Jain Dhyana, mainly by monks and laypersons of Śvētāmbara Jainism.

Bhagchandra (Bhaskar) Jain is an Indian scholar, renowned for his knowledge of Jainism and Buddhism, and of classical Indian languages including Pali and Sanskrit. His career has spanned more than five decades. He is the recipient of the 2004 "Presidential Award" for his contribution to Pali-Prakrit languages and Buddhism & Jainism religions.
Jain literature refers to the literature of the Jain religion. It is a vast and ancient literary tradition, which was initially transmitted orally. The oldest surviving material is contained in the canonical Jain Agamas, which are written in Ardhamagadhi, a Prakrit language. Various commentaries were written on these canonical texts by later Jain monks. Later works were also written in other languages, like Sanskrit and Maharashtri Prakrit.
Sadhvipramukha Kanakprabha was born in Calcutta, Bengal, British India, on 22 July 1941. She attended Parmarthik Shikshan Sanstha, Ladnun, at the age of 15. Her decision to lead the life of an ascetic was realised at the age of 19 after finishing her studies in Ladnun. She was initiated by the 9th head of Terapanth, Acharya Tulsi, on 8 July 1960.
Acharya Mahashraman is the eleventh Acharya, supreme head of Jain Śvētāmbara Terapanth sect. Mahashraman ji heads all activities functioning under Terapanth organisation, most notably Anuvrat, Preksha Meditation, Jeevan Vigyan. All the Terapanth sub-organisations, notably. Jain Vishva Bharati, Terapanth Mahasabha, etc. are working under the guidance of Acharya Shri Mahashraman. His views are liberal and secular. He has a firm conviction to promote nonviolence, moral values and principles.
The Ahimsa Award is an annual award given by the Institute of Jainology in recognition of individuals who embody and promote the principles of Ahimsa (nonviolence). It was established in 2006 and has since been awarded at the annual "Ahimsa Day" event, on 2 October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Acharya Tulsi was a prominent Jain religious leader. He was the founder of the Anuvrata movement and the Jain Vishva Bharti Institute, Ladnun, and the author of over one hundred books.

Gyanmati Mataji is an Indian Jain religious guru Aryika (nun) from India. She is known for being a prolific author and the construction of several Jain temples including the Jambudweep temple complex at Hastinapur, Uttar Pradesh, Ayodya Jain and the Statue of Ahimsa at Mangi Tungi in Maharashtra.
Prakrit Bharati Academy is a public library established on 21 February 1977 in Jaipur with the prime goal to publish books in Prakrit, Sanskrit, Hindi other Indian languages in simplified English to benefit pursuance of wisdom for laymen and scholars alike. Spread over 3368.84 meters surrounded by Universities and Engineering institutes on Calgary road on Malviya Nagar area, It is also recognized by several universities as an eminent Library (475/1976-77), Study Center and Publication House. It also conduct post-graduate courses. The academy is the coaching and examination center for post-graduate correspondence courses in Jain Philosophy conducted by Jain Vishva Bharti.
Śvētāmbara Terapanth is a sect of the Śhewtāmbara Jainism that was founded by Acharya Bhikshu in Vikram Samvat 1817. Acharya Bhikshu believed in strict adherence to the canonical code of conduct for ascetics as prescribed by Lord Mahavira. Acharya Bhikshu rigorously followed the principles and thus set an example for all to follow. He showed the way for the life of discipline, purity and self-control.
