North Bali International Airport (Indonesian : Bandara Internasional Bali Utara; commonly abbreviated as "NBIA"), was a proposed airport on the island of Bali, Indonesia, located at Kubutambahan, in the kabupaten (regency) of Buleleng. It was a project initiated by the Governor of Bali, I Made Mangku Pastika, on 9 July 2015. However, this Project was officially removed from the Government Priority List by President Joko Widodo, which was announced in July 2022, and has also removed 9 other mega projects across Indonesia on the same day.

Airport

With a capacity of 32 million passengers, NBIA will be Indonesia's second largest airport. Built entirely on the sea, the site will be divided into two parts: the Aerotropolis and the airport. The latter will consist of a main terminal and three boarding satellites, and will have two parallel runways, a heliport and a seaport. The site will also include a cargo terminal and maintenance area.^[1]

Planning

The beginnings

The Ministry of National Development Planning has included in its PPP Book 2013 (Public - Private Partnerships), a programme for the development of a new airport in North Bali under project code D-001-10-004.^[2]

This project consists of relieving congestion at Ngurah Rai International Airport. Bali Province is one of Indonesia's largest tourist attractions. The only airport, located in the South, welcomed nearly 20 million passengers in 2017 and is expected to grow by 8% the following year.^[3] The Local Government considers that a new airport will reduce traffic congestion in Denpasar municipality and Nusa Dua district.

Year 2015

After studying several concepts, the Governor of Bali selected an airport at sea project in his letter of recommendation No. 553/11583/DPIK of 9 July 2015.

This project proposes to develop a THKON Aerotropolis in Kubutambahan in the Buleleng Regency. THKON comes from the term Tri Hita Karana. It is a new urban development strategy in accordance with an ancient Balinese tradition based on quality of life.

Year 2018

The project of construction on the sea was the culmination of many political debates which led to an extension of the feasibility studies. The subject of the debates is equity between North and South Bali. The Governor asks for a balance in the development plan of the two zones.

In March 2018, the Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs, Luhut Panjaitan, gave the go-ahead for a feasibility study at the chosen location.^[4]^[5]

At the same time, expansion of the existing airport as well as transport links between the north and the south of the island are being prioritised by the Transport Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi.^[6]^[7]

Juanda International Airport is operated by PT Angkasa Pura I. Buleleng, officially Buleleng Regency, is a regency of Bali Province, Indonesia. It stretches along the north side of the island of Bali from the Bali Strait in the west almost to the eastern end of the island. It has an area of 1,365.88 km² and a population of 624,125 at the 2010 census and 791,910 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as of mid-2022 was 825,141. Its regency seat is in the town of Singaraja.

Bali Mandara Toll Road or Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa Toll Road is a toll road carried by a bridge stretching across the Gulf of Benoa. The 8.3-kilometre (5.2 mi) highway connects the city of Denpasar and South Kuta, Badung Regency, Nusa Dua and Ngurah Rai International Airport. It cost Rp 2.48 Trillion to construct and was intended to prevent traffic jams on the Ngurah Rai Bypass Road, previously the only road connecting areas of Bali on opposite sites of the airport. The Ngurah Rai Bypass Road, a land-based route, could not be widened because of the location of the airport runway; the new toll road was instead constructed over water.

I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport, is the main international airport of Bali, Indonesia. Soekarno–Hatta Airport Commuter Line or simply Soekarno–Hatta Line is an airport rail link service in Greater Jakarta, Indonesia. This airport rail link was built to cut travel time from the Jakarta city center to the airport, as roads connecting the Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (SHIA) and Jakarta city center are frequently affected by traffic congestion.

Meikarta is a planned city project in Indonesia, which is aimed to become a modern city of international scale. The township is being developed by PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency. The township has land area of about 500 hectares. The project was officially launched on 17 August 2017. The project is located on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road. Meikarta expects to serve as the residential area of other industrial estates in Cikarang region such as Kota Jababeka and MM2100. Total investment for development of the township is about Rp 278 trillion.

Singkawang Airport is an airport serving the Singbebas area in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is located at Pangmilang Subdistrict, South Singkawang District, 13 km (8.1 mi) south from the city centre. It will also become an alternative to the existing Supadio Airport at Pontianak.
