St. Francis Street Methodist Church, officially St. Francis Street United Methodist Church, is a historic former United Methodist Church building in Mobile, Alabama, United States. [2] The current structure was built in 1896 by the architectural firm of Watkins and Johnson. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 5, 1984. [1]
Holland Nimmons McTyeire (1824–1889) met his wife Amelia Townsend (1827–1891) in this church. [3] He later founded Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee thanks to his wife's cousin, Frank Armstrong Crawford Vanderbilt (1839–1885), who convinced her second husband, Cornelius Vanderbilt, the richest man in the United States at the time, to donate US$1 million for its creation. The church closed in 1993, and in 2015 was renovated for use as a concert and events venue known as The Steeple. [4] [5]

Bellingrath Gardens and Home is the 65-acre (26 ha) public garden and historic home of Walter and Bessie Bellingrath, located on the Fowl River near Mobile, Alabama. Walter Bellingrath was one of the first Coca-Cola bottlers in the Southeast, and with his wealth built the estate garden and home. He and his wife, Bessie, lived in the home which has since been converted into a museum. The gardens opened to the public in 1932. The site was listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on September 14, 1977, and on the National Register of Historic Places on October 19, 1982.

St. Philip's Church is an historic church at 142 Church Street in Charleston, South Carolina. Its National Historic Landmark description states: "Built in 1836, this stuccoed brick church features an imposing tower designed in the Wren-Gibbs tradition. Three Tuscan pedimented porticoes contribute to this design to make a building of the highest quality and sophistication." On November 7, 1973, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark.

It serves as the parish church for St. Francis Xavier Parish in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mobile. St. Francis Xavier Parish was established in 1868. The vernacular style building was completed in 1916, replacing a previous structure destroyed in a hurricane. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 3, 1991, as part of the Historic Roman Catholic Properties in Mobile Multiple Property Submission.

The Bush–Herbert Building is a historic building in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. It was home to the Bush Brick Company and T. L. Herbert and Sons, from 1911 to 1961. The family business made bricks used for the construction of many buildings on the campus of Vanderbilt University as well as the Maxwell House Hotel, the Downtown Presbyterian Church and the Tulip Street Methodist Church. The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since March 25, 1982.
