Tiara Nicole Thomas (born September 12, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter and record producer, most notably featured on Wale's 2013 single "Bad". [1] [2] As of 2013, Thomas has landed a label deal with Interscope Records, a label under the Interscope-Geffen-A&M group.


Early life

Thomas was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States.

Early in life, Thomas' parents nurtured her musical talents. Thomas showcased her musical talent in school, church, and within her community. Thomas attended Lawrence North High School. A hardcore fan of hip hop and pop music, Thomas developed her sound early and set out to carve her own lane in music by fusing her love for pop and alternative music, ballads, and rap with instrumentation. In June 2012, Thomas graduated from Ball State University.


Thomas is a singer and self-taught guitar player. Thomas debuted her singing career on rapper Wale's mixtape More About Nothing. The track was entitled "The Cloud". She is also featured on Wale's hit single "Bad" and co-produced it with Kelson Camp.

20092012: Early career

Thomas met founders of The Board Administration Wale and Le'Greg O. Harrison in a club in Atlanta during a Wale concert in 2009. [1] After exchanging information and submitting music, she received a response and positive feedback after three months. Shortly thereafter, she traveled to New York City where she opened for Wale and shared the stage with Diggy Simmons, J. Cole and Fabolous at the Highline Ballroom. [4] [5] Thomas signed to The Board Administration in 2011. [6] [7] [8]

She is well known for viral promotions via Twitter and YouTube and recognized for new online musical content, live performance streams, and cover performances of popular music. On August 3, 2010, the world was introduced to Tiara Thomas on "The Cloud" with Wale through his mixtape More About Nothing. Her name trended worldwide on May 30, 2011 on Twitter the day "The Cloud" video released. [9] [10] [11]

Tiara Thomas was selected as a 2011-2012 Campaign Spokesperson for the American Eagle Outfitters Back to School We The People Campaign. [12] Her likeness is canvassed in New York's Time Square at the American Eagle Outfitters flagship Store Location and across the continental US in all 900+ stores worldwide. Her original songs for the campaign "Denim" and "Wassup" are featured on the American Eagle Outfitters website and were circulated to the masses through their social media campaign. [13]

2013present: Bad, Dear Sallie Mae EP and debut album

Thomas worked on her debut LP Sallie Mae, and was featured on Wale's single "Bad" (2013). [14] The latter peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first Hot 100 and top 40 entry. In June 2013, it was announced she had left Wale's record label The Board Administration to sign with Rico Love's Division 1 record label in a joint deal with Interscope Geffen A&M. [15]

Thomas released a five song EP titled Dear Sallie Mae on October 8, 2013. [16]

Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, better known by his stage name Wale, is an American rapper. He first rose to prominence in 2006, when his song "Dig Dug " became popular in his hometown. Wale became locally recognized and continued recording music for the regional audience. Producer Mark Ronson discovered Wale in 2006 and signed him to Allido Records in 2007. The discography of Wale, a Nigerian-American hip hop recording artist, consists of six studio albums, three compilation albums, ten mixtapes, one extended play, forty-six singles, two promotional singles and forty-one music videos. In 2005, Wale started his music career by releasing mixtapes in the Washington, D.C. area. His first mixtape was titled Paint a Picture. Following that, Wale released his second mixtape in 2006, Hate Is the New Love. In the same year, Wale signed with a local record label in Studio 43. In 2007 Wale was discovered by Mark Ronson, and was signed by Allido Records, which released his third mixtape, 100 Miles & Running, featuring artist Daniel Merriweather.
