The 1934 Illinois Senate election was held on November 6, 1934, to determine which party would control the Illinois Senate for the following two years in the 59th Illinois General Assembly. The 26 odd-numbered seats out of the 51 seats in the Illinois Senate were up for election alongside a special election to fill the vacancy left in District 40 following the death of incumbent democratic state senator Clifford J. Vogelsang on May 8, 1933. The primary was held on April 10, 1934. Prior to the election, 33 seats were held by Democrats and 18 seats were held by Republicans. The general election saw Democrats expanding their majority in the State Senate by 2 seats. [1] [2] [3]
