The 2025 NTT IndyCar Series is scheduled to be the 114th official championship season of American open wheel racing and the 30th season under IndyCar Series sanction. Its showcase event will be the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Contents

Chip Ganassi Racing driver Álex Palou will enter the season as the defending champion, while Team Penske driver Josef Newgarden is the defending Indianapolis 500 winner.

Background and series news

After IndyCar's television contract with NBC Sports was not renewed in 2024, the series signed a new agreement with Fox Sports that will see all races being covered on the Fox Broadcast Network. [1]

2025 was scheduled to be the supposed final season with Firestone as the series's official tire partner and supplier, with their current contract expiring at the end of 2025. [2] On September 12, 2024, IndyCar and Firestone announced an multi-year extension of their contract, with Firestone staying as the official series' tire partner and supplier for the foreseeable future.

The following teams, entries, and drivers are contracted to compete in the 2025 NTT IndyCar Series season. All teams will use a spec Dallara DW12 chassis with 2018 universal aero kit and Firestone tires.

  • On April 9, 2024, Italian junior formula and endurance racing team Prema Racing announced it would enter two full-time entries in IndyCar in 2025. [23] [24]
  • On August 19, 2024, Meyer Shank Racing confirmed that it would be switching technical alliance partners from Andretti Global to Chip Ganassi Racing, having been with Andretti since 2020. [25]
  • On September 4, 2024, Racer reported that Chip Ganassi Racing would downsize its IndyCar operation from five to three cars. [26]

Chip Ganassi Racing, LLC (CGR), also sometimes branded as Chip Ganassi Racing Teams, is an American auto racing organization with teams competing in the NTT IndyCar Series, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship. They have formerly competed in the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series, Global Rallycross Championship, Extreme E and the Rolex Sports Car Series. Tom Leonard Blomqvist is a British racing driver. He competes in the IMSA SportsCar Championship with Meyer Shank Racing. Blomqvist also competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship with United Autosports in the LMP2 category. Blomqvist won the 2022 and 2023 24 Hours of Daytona with Meyer Shank and the 2018 24 Hours of Spa with BMW Motorsport. He is the son of 1984 Swedish World Rally Champion, Stig Blomqvist.

The 2025 Firestone Indy NXT Series is scheduled to be the 38th season of the Indy NXT open wheel auto racing series and the 23rd sanctioned by IndyCar, acting as the primary support series for the IndyCar Series. This is the third year of the championship running under the Indy NXT moniker following its acquisition by Penske Entertainment, the owner of the IndyCar Series, in 2022.
