Kedah, also known by its honorific Darul Aman and historically as Queda, is a state of Malaysia, located in the northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia. The state covers a total area of over 9,000 km2, and it consists of the mainland and the Langkawi islands. The mainland has a relatively flat terrain, which is used to grow rice, while Langkawi is an archipelago, most of which are uninhabited islands.

Alor Setar is the state capital of Kedah, Malaysia. It is the second-largest city in the state after Sungai Petani and one of the most-important cities on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is home to the third-tallest telecommunication tower in Malaysia, the Alor Setar Tower.

Nurul Izzah binti Anwar is a Malaysian public servant with an extensive history of dedicated service as a legislator, activist, advocate and champion of social change. She also served as Co-chairperson of the Secretariat of the Special Advisory Body to the Minister of Finance (ACFIN) serving Tan Sri Hassan Marican since February 2023. She served as Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister on Economics and Finance briefly before Encik Nurhisham bin Hussein, former EPF Chief Economist, assumed the position in the PMO. She was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Permatang Pauh from May 2018 to November 2022 and for Lembah Pantai from March 2008 to May 2018. She is a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and formerly Pakatan Rakyat (PR) opposition coalitions. She has also served as the Vice President of PKR from November 2010 to her resignation in December 2018 and again since July 2022. She served on the Public Accounts Committee from 2018 to 2022 and was the KEADILAN Spokesperson for the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development. She was also an active member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia for the Reform of All Places of Detention (APPGM). She also served as Chairperson of the Consideration of Bills Select Committee from December 2018 to July 2019. In July 2021, Nurul Izzah, in a collaboration with Prof. Fatimah Kari, published a new report on Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). This study calculated the varying dimensions of poverty experienced by 332 B40 households in Permatang Pauh. This index would go beyond economic factors and consider social, political, and environmental aspects to provide a comprehensive assessment. By including dimensions like women's empowerment and environmental sustainability, the index aims to promote a well-rounded approach to rebuilding after conflict, prioritizing the well-being of all individuals, especially women. Six months later, Mustapa Mohamed, former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Economic Affairs, revealed the government’s plan to revamp the national MPI methodology in response to the study. Mustapha Mohamed officially launched the report on October 2021.
Dato' Haji Phahrolrazi bin Haji Mohd Zawawi is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Kedah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Alor Mengkudu from May 2018 to August 2023 and for Pengkalan Kundor from March 2008 to May 2018 as well as from December 1999 to March 2004, Leader of the Opposition of Kedah from July 2020 to October 2022 and Member of the Kedah State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) state administration under former Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak from March 2009 to February 2012. He is a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition and was an independent, a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), also a component party of the PH coalition and a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a former component party of the PR coalition. He also served as State Chairman of AMANAH of Kedah from November 2019 to his removal from the party in October 2022. He was also the State Deputy Chairman of AMANAH of Kedah and State Deputy Commissioner of PAS of Kedah.
Taib Azamudden bin Md Taib is a Malaysian politician of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). Taib was the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Baling constituency in Kedah for two separate terms; from 1999 to 2004 and from 2008 to 2013. He sat in Parliament as a member of the opposition PAS.
Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Juhar bin Mahiruddin is a Malaysian politician who has served as the 10th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah since January 2011. Dato' Wira Othman bin Aziz is a Malaysian politician. He was the member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the seat of Jerlun, Kedah, from 5 May 2013 to 10 May 2018. He previously served one term in the Kedah State Legislative Assembly from 21 March 2004 to 8 March 2008) and was the chairman of the Kedah Tourism Action Council. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) in the previous ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
Ahmad Samsuri bin Mokhtar, better known as Dr Sam, is a Malaysian politician, aerospace engineer and lecturer who has served as the 15th Menteri Besar of Terengganu, Member of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Ru Rendang since May 2018 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kemaman since December 2023. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. He has also served as the Vice President of PAS since June 2019.

Dato' Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi bin Md Nor is a Malaysian politician who has served as the 14th Menteri Besar of Kedah since May 2020, respectively, and Member of the Kedah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Jeneri since May 2018. He was the Leader of the Opposition of the state from July 2018 until the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan state administration led by his predecessor Mukhriz Mahathir in May 2020. A member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), he is the party's Deputy Commissioner I of the state. His tenure as Menteri Besar of Kedah is characterised by a series of political gaffes, scandals, bizarre claims and strained relationships with the federal government and other state governments in Malaysia, including a disparaging remark he had made against the Sultan of Selangor in 2023, as well as claiming that the neighbouring state of Penang is a part of Kedah and becoming one of the key people in the "Green Wave".

He served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries II in the Barisan Nasional administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Ronald Kiandee from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022, Chairman of the Farmers' Organisation Authority, Deputy Chairman of the Perikatan Nasional Backbenchers Club from 2020 to 2021 and Member of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly for Kuala Besut from November 1999 to March 2004. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party, a component party of the Perikatan Nasional coalition. He also served as Dewan Ulamak Chief of PAS from July 2019 to 2021.
Muhammad Khalil bin Abdul Hadi is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of the Terengganu State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) state administration under Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar since August 2023 as well as Member of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Batu Buruk since May 2018. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the PN coalition. He served as the Youth Chief of PAS from April 2017 to June 2019. He is also the son of Abdul Hadi Awang, the President of PAS and Member of Parliament (MP) for Marang.
