Benjamin Rolland or Benjamin de Rolland was a French painter born in Guadeloupe around 1773 and died in Grenoble, France on March 24, 1855. [1]
A student of Jacques-Louis David, he later taught the children of King Joachim Murat in Naples. He painted numerous portraits of members of royal and aristocratic families.
De Rolland became the director and curator of the Grenoble Museum from 1817 to 1853, [2] he also taught at the city's School of Painting and Drawing, where his students included painters Ernest Hébert, Théodore Fantin-Latour (father of Henri Fantin-Latour), Jules Guédy and Eugénie Chosson du Colombier. [3]
Benjamin de Rolland exhibited at the Salons of 1806, 1808, 1817, 1819, 1822, and 1824.
