Hainan is an island province and the southernmost province of China. It consists of the eponymous Hainan Island and various smaller islands in the South China Sea under the province's administration. The name literally means "South of the Sea".
Haikou is the capital and most populous city of the Chinese province of Hainan. Haikou city is situated on the northern coast of Hainan, by the mouth of the Nandu River. The northern part of the city is on the Haidian Island, which is separated from the main part of Haikou by the Haidian River, a branch of the Nandu. Administratively, Haikou is a prefecture-level city, comprising four districts, and covering 2,280 square kilometres (880 sq mi). There are 2,046,189 inhabitants in the built-up area, all living within the four urban districts of the city.

Xinbu Island is a coastal island located directly to the east of Haidian Island in Haikou, Hainan, China. This island, located at the mouth of the Nandu River, has a population of approximately 4,000 people. Xinbu Island effectively splits the Nandu River as it flows north to the sea. The main part of the river flows along the east coast of the island while the Huanggou Channel, a distributary, flows along the west coast.
The Shenyang–Haikou Expressway, designated as G15 and commonly referred to as the Shenhai Expressway (沈海高速公路) is an expressway in China that connects the cities of Shenyang, Liaoning, and Haikou, Hainan. When fully complete, it will be 3,710 km (2,310 mi) in length. One of its oldest portions is the Shenyang–Dalian Expressway, or Shenda Expressway (沈大高速公路) is a 400 km (250 mi) expressway that connects Shenyang and Dalian, the two largest cities of China's Liaoning province.
The Lanzhou–Haikou Expressway, designated as G75 and commonly referred to as the Lanhai Expressway, is an expressway in China that connects the cities of Lanzhou, Gansu, and Haikou, Hainan. When fully complete, it will be 2,570 km (1,600 mi) in length. It is one of the most important routes between Northwest China and the Southwest, and considered one of the developmental axes of Development of Western China.
The Haikou University of Economics is a privately owned and operated college in Haikou, Hainan, China. Despite its English name, the school has not been granted university status.

Movie Town Haikou is an artificial town, movie studios, guest apartments, and administration buildings, approximately 8 km south of Haikou, Hainan, China. The town, located beside Mission Hills Haikou golf resort, was created as a movie and television filming location and tourist attraction. Some of the buildings still under construction are the town buildings and the movie studios with accompanying filming facilities.
Haikou New East Bridge is an arch bridge over the Nandu River, Hainan, China. It connects Xinbu Island at the west to Dongying town and the rest of the province at the east.

Haiwen Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located east of Haikou City, Hainan, China. It crosses the mouth of Dongzhai Harbor and was built to provide quicker access between Haikou and Wenchang, a large, administrative division of Hainan province. The bridge reduced travel time from Haikou to Wenchang from 90 minutes down to around 20 minutes.
Haikou Port New Seaport is a seaport located around 1 km north of South Port, Haikou, Hainan, China. It has 8 passenger and cargo berths, and a capacity for one million vehicles and 6 million passengers annually. It will become the main port receiving ships from Guangdong. The project began construction on December 25, 2015. It officially opened January 26, 2017. The total investment in the project is 3.8 billion yuan.
Haikou Transportation Center, also known as Haikou Bus terminal, is the main bus station serving Haikou, Hainan, China. It is located across the road from Haikou East railway station's south side. It was built during 2017 and opened in October of that year. The main bus station was once called Haikou South Station, and was located on Nanhai Road around 1.5 km northwest of Haikou East railway station.
