The Port of Rizhao is a natural deep-water seaport on the coast of the city of Rizhao, Shandong Province, People's Republic of China, located on the southern shore of Shandong Peninsula, opening to the Yellow Sea. It has 46 deep-water berths in two main port areas (Lanzhao Port Area and Shijiu Port Area). In 2012 it reached a throughput of 284 million metric tons, making it the tenth-busiest port in China. Donggang District is the main urban district of the city of Rizhao, Shandong province, China. It has an area of 1,636.4 km2 (631.8 sq mi) and around 865,000 inhabitants. All the main government agencies of the city, as well as the Port of Rizhao, are located in this district.

The Dongdu–Pingyi railway or Dongping railway, is a railroad in northern China between Dongdu, near Xintai, and Pingyi central Shandong Province. The line, 60.19 km (37 mi) in length was built from 2009 to 2010 at the cost of 1.2558 billion Renminbi. The line is jointly owned by the Jinan Railway Bureau, Laiwu Iron & Steel Group, Xinwen Mining Enterprises Group and Port of Rizhao Joint Stock Company, and serves primarily to carry coal mined in central Shandong and imported iron ore to steel mills in Laiwu and exported steel products to the Port of Rizhao.

Rizhao Polytechnic, colloquially known as Rizhi (日职), is a public institution for tertiary education in Rizhao, Shandong province, China, specializing in engineering and technical majors. The college has around 14.000 students and 900 teachers, the campus is located north of the University City in Donggang District.

Georg Maria Stenz was a Catholic missionary of the Society of the Divine Word in Shandong during the period from 1893 to 1927. He was involved in two major incidents where force was used against Catholic missionaries in Shandong, the Juye incident and the Jietou incident. The Juye incident (1897) was an attack on Stenz's mission station in Zhang Jia Village in which two German missionaries were killed. Stenz, who was the likely target of the attack, managed to hide and escaped unharmed. The incident was used by the German Empire to justify the occupation of Qingdao. In the Jietou incident, Stenz and a group of Chinese Christians were mistreated and held prisoner in the village of Jietou for three days resulting in German military intervention and compensation claims.
