The Port of Xiamen is an important deep water port located on Xiamen Island,the adjacent mainland coast,and along the estuary of the Jiulongjiang River in southern Fujian,China. It is one of the trunk line ports in the Asia-Pacific region. It is ranked the 8th-largest container port in China and ranks 17th in the world. It is the 4th port in China with the capacity to handle 6th-generation large container vessels. In 2013,Xiamen handled 191 million tons of cargo,including 8.08 million TEUs of containers. [1] On 31 August 2010,Xiamen Port incorporated the neighboring port of Zhangzhou to form the largest port of China's Southeast. This was a relatively uncommon case of ports merging across jurisdictions. [2]
The port comprises twelve areas including Heping,Dongdu,Haitian,Shihushan,Gaoqi,and Liuwudian[ better source needed ] (in Tong'an District). [3]
The world's top 20 shipping companies have all established major shipping routes and operations in Xiamen. A total of 68 shipping routes serve over 50 countries to almost all the major ports in the world,yielding an average 469 ship calls at the port each month. In addition,passenger services also operate from Xiamen to Hong Kong,Guangzhou,Shanghai and Wenzhou, [4] as well as frequent ferry service to the Shuitou terminal in Kinmen Island (R.O.C.).
The port is owned and operated by Xiamen Port Authority (厦门港口管理局) which is a department of the Xiamen Municipal Government. [5]
The port is part of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road that runs from the Chinese coast to Singapore,towards the southern tip of India to Mombasa,from there through the Red Sea via the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean,there to the Upper Adriatic region to the northern Italian hub of Trieste with its connections to Central Europe and the North Sea. Xiamen is a well-developed first-class port. Dongdu harbor is located on Haicang district which is on the mainland. [3] The coast line in the harbor area stretches for 30 kilometres (19 mi),and the depth of water reaches up to 17 metres (56 ft).
The port offers 74 berths. One can handle vessels of 100,000 or more tonnes,23 berths are for 10,000 or more tonnes,and two handle vessels between berths for 5,000 and 10,000 tonnes. There are nine container terminals. [1]
Ships approaching and departing from Xiamen Port uses the channel between ROC-controlled Dadan Island and PRC-controlled Qingyu Island to access the Taiwan Strait. Starting December 2015,Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications opened the channel between Dadan Island and Menghu Islet (both are ROC-controlled) as a shortcut for ships using the Liuwudian,Xiang'an area of the Xiamen Port. Xiamen is the first mainland port to start the direct shipment of cargo to Kaohsiung in Taiwan. The initial cargo handling capacity totalled 1.34 million TEUs of containers. [1]
Xiamen,also known as Amoy,is a sub-provincial city in southeastern Fujian,People's Republic of China,beside the Taiwan Strait. It is divided into six districts:Huli,Siming,Jimei,Tong'an,Haicang,and Xiang'an. All together,these cover an area of 1,700.61 square kilometers (656.61 sq mi) with a population of 5,163,970 as of 2020 and estimated at 5.28 million as of 31 December 2021. The urbanized area of the city has spread from its original island to include most parts of all six of its districts,and with 4 Zhangzhou districts,form a built-up area of 7,284,148 inhabitants. This area also connects with Quanzhou in the north,making up a metropolis of nearly ten million people. The Kinmen Islands (Quemoy) administered by the Republic of China (Taiwan) which lie less than 6 kilometers (4 mi) away separated by Xiamen Bay.
Kinmen,alternatively known as Quemoy,is a group of islands governed as a county by the Republic of China (Taiwan),off the southeastern coast of mainland China. It lies roughly 10 km (6.2 mi) east of the city of Xiamen in Fujian,from which it is separated by Xiamen Bay. Kinmen is located 187 km (116 mi) west from the shoreline of the island of Taiwan across the Taiwan Strait.

Kinmen Shangyi Airport is a civilian airport serving Kinmen,Fujian Province,Republic of China. It is located at Jinhu Township of Kinmen County. It was authorized to become a C-class airport under the direct supervision of the Civil Aeronautics Administration,Ministry of Transportation and Communications of the Executive Yuan. It serves an average of 1.2 million passengers every year.
Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is the airport serving the city of Xiamen in Fujian Province,China. It is the main base of XiamenAir and TAECO,an aircraft maintenance provider. The airport is located on the north side of Xiamen Island. Construction of a new terminal started in October 2011 and was completed in 2014.
The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan is the busiest port in the world in terms of cargo tonnage. It handled 888.96 million tons of cargo in 2015. The Port of Meizhou Baywas created in 2012 by merging the ports of Quanzhou,Meizhou Island and Putian,as part of Fujian Province's rationalization of ports,which cutting down the number of ports in the province into three large consolidated ports. In 2012,Meizhou Bay port had 147 berths,24 with 10,000DWT capacity,and had a total cargo throughput of 114 million tonnes.
The Port of Tianjin is divided into nine areas:the three core areas of Beijiang,Nanjiang,and Dongjiang around the Xingang fairway;the Haihe area along the river;the Beitang port area around the Beitangkou estuary;the Dagukou port area in the estuary of the Haihe River;and three areas under construction.
The Port of Tianjin falls under the supervisory and regulatory purview of the Tianjin Municipality People’s Government. The 2004 incorporation of the Tianjin Port Authority into TPG formally divested the group of its role as Port Regulator,which passed to the Tianjin Transportation and Port Authority (天津市交通运输和港口管理局),formerly the Tianjin Transport Commission. The TTPA implements state policy on port work;drafts local policies,by-laws and regulations;and licenses,audits,and issues certifications to businesses operating in the port,in particular to ship terminals. The TTPA supervises and manages compliance to all laws and regulations regarding environmental protection,service compliance,pilotage,maintenance of port infrastructure and handling of dangerous goods and disinfection in all terminals and storage areas.

The Port of Taizhou is a natural seaport on the coast of the prefectural-level city of Taizhou,Zhejiang Province,People's Republic of China. The Port is centered at the mouth of the Jiaojiang River,with port areas opening to the Taizhou Bay,Yueqing Bay and Sanmen Bay of the East China Sea. It is considered as the southernmost of the ports of the Yangtze Delta economic area. In 2013 it reached a throughput of 56.28 million metric tons,an increase of 5.0% over 2012,and a container throughput of 166,571 TEUs,an increase of 10.4%.
The Port of Wenzhou is a natural estuary deep-water international seaport on the coast of Wenzhou,Zhejiang,People's Republic of China. It opens into the East China Sea. In 2013,its total cargo throughput was 25.16 million tonnes,up 15.4% from 2012,and container throughput was 570,200 TEU,up 10.19%.
The Port of Fuzhou is a natural seaport centered on the estuary of the Minjiang River artificial deep-water international seaport on the coast of Fuzhou,Fujian,People's Republic of China. and of the neighboring prefecture of Ningde. The Port is located on the southeastern coast of Fujian,facing the Taiwan Strait. Fuzhou is the Mainland port closest to Taiwan,being just 149 Nautical miles from Keelung.
The Port of Huizhou is a natural coastal port located on Huizhou,Guangdong,People's Republic of China,immediately east of Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It opens into the Daya Bay. Started only 20 years ago,it has moved from a fishing village to another large player in the Pearl River Delta shipping hub. In 2012,its total cargo throughput was 51,18 million tonnes.
Xiamen Metro,officially branded as AMTR,is a rapid transit system serving Xiamen,Fujian,China. Line 1 began operation on 31 December 2017. Line 2 began operation on 25 December 2019. Line 3 began operation on 25 June 2021.

Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport is an airport being built to serve the city of Xiamen in Fujian Province,China. Once completed,it will replace the existing Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport as the city's main airport. The airport is located on the Dadeng Island in Xiang'an District,facing Nan'an,Quanzhou to the north. It is 15 km (9.3 mi) from Kinmen in the Republic of China,25 km (16 mi) from central Xiamen,44 km (27 mi) from downtown Quanzhou,and 72 km (45 mi) from Zhangzhou.
Island Ring Road or Huandao Road is a city thoroughfare making a loop around Xiamen Island,Xiamen,Fujian,China. It passes through the districts of Siming District and Huli District. It is 43 kilometers long,and its number is County Route 401.
Binlang Islet is an islet located in Lieyu Township,Kinmen County (Quemoy),Taiwan (ROC). The islet can be seen from the shore near Lingshui Lake and from the shore near Shaxi Fort (沙溪堡) in the southwestern part of Lesser Kinmen (Lieyu) as well as from Siming District,Xiamen (Amoy),Fujian,China (PRC). The highest point on the islet is 47 m (154 ft) above sea level.
