Hong Kong has a highly developed transport network,encompassing both public and private transport. Based on Hong Kong Government's Travel Characteristics Survey,over 90% of daily journeys are on public transport,the highest rate in the world. However,in 2014 the Transport Advisory Committee,which advises the Government on transportation issues,issued a report on the much-worsened congestion problem in Hong Kong and pointed at the excessive growth of private cars during the past 10–15 years.
Transport in Macau includes road,sea,rail and air transport. Road transport is the primary mode of transport within Macau,although a new rail system opened in December 2019 serving the areas of Taipa and Cotai. The main forms of public transport are buses and taxis.
Shenzhen is a city and special economic zone on the east bank of the Pearl River estuary on the central coast of the southern Chinese province of Guangdong,bordering Hong Kong to the south,Dongguan to the north,and Huizhou to the northeast. With a population of 17.56 million in 2020,Shenzhen is the third most populous city by urban population in China after Shanghai and Beijing. Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city located on the west bank of the Pearl River estuary on the central coast of southern Guangdong province,People's Republic of China,on the southeastern edge of the Pearl River Delta. Its name literally means "pearl sea",which originates from the city's location at the mouth of the Pearl River meeting the South China Sea. Zhuhai borders Jiangmen to the west,Zhongshan to the north and Macau to the southeast,and shares maritime boundaries with Shenzhen and Hong Kong to the northeast across the estuary.
The Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region is the low-lying area surrounding the Pearl River estuary,where the Pearl River flows into the South China Sea. Referred to as the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area in official documents,the region is one of the most densely populated and urbanized regions in the world,and is considered a megacity by numerous scholars. It is currently the wealthiest region in Southern China and one of the wealthiest regions in China along with the Yangtze River Delta in Eastern China and Jingjinji in Northern China. Most of the region is part of the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone,which is a special economic zone of China.
Shun Tak–China Travel Ship Management Limited,doing business as TurboJET,is a ferry company based in Hong Kong. The company was established from the joint venture between Shun Tak Holdings and China Travel International Investment Hong Kong in July 1999. It operates hydrofoil and high-speed ferry services between Hong Kong,Macau,Shenzhen,and Zhuhai in the Pearl River Delta area.
The Port of Hong Kong located by the South China Sea,is a deepwater seaport dominated by trade in containerised manufactured products,and to a lesser extent raw materials and passengers. A key factor in the economic development of Hong Kong,the natural shelter and deep waters of Victoria Harbour provide ideal conditions for berthing and the handling of all types of vessels. It is one of the busiest ports in the world,in the three categories of shipping movements,cargo handled and passengers carried. This makes Hong Kong a Large-Port Metropolis.
Nanshan District is one of the nine districts comprising Shenzhen. It encompasses the southwest area of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone,with a population of 1.08 million. In 2022,the district of Nanshan's local GDP output exceeded 800 billion Chinese Yuan or 111 billion U.S. dollars,an economy slightly larger than that of Cuba or Oman. The region has an established tourism industry and is home to several sightseeing locations,as well as multiple seaside parks such as the Shenzhen Bay Park and the Shenzhen Talent Park. Its tallest building is the 393-meter China Resources Headquarters.
The Port of Zhuhai is the port of the prefecture-level city of Zhuhai,on the west side of the Pearl River estuary in the Chinese province of Guangdong. The Port of Zhuhai is composed of seven main port areas:Gaolan,Wanshan,Jiuzhou,Xiangzhou,Tangjia,Hongwan and Doumen. The main areas are the Jiuzhou Port Area to the east of the city,and the Gaolan Port Area to the west. As of 2012,the port had 131 berths,126 production berths,of which 17 were deep-water berths over 10,000DWT.
Port of Guangzhou is the main seaport of Guangzhou city,Guangdong province,China. The port is operated by Guangzhou Port Group Co. Ltd which is a state owned company. The company was established on February 26,2004 from the former Guangzhou Harbor Bureau. It was approved by the Guangzhou Municipal Government. It is currently the largest comprehensive port in South China. Its international maritime trade reaches over 300 ports in more than 80 countries and districts worldwide. The port also incorporates the former Huangpu Port.
Skypier Terminal is a cross-border facility that includes a ferry pier and a coach bay integrated within Hong Kong International Airport,Chek Lap Kok,New Territories,Hong Kong. It is operated by Hong Kong International Airport Ferry Terminal Services Limited,a joint-venture company between Chu Kong Passenger Transport Co.,Ltd and Shun Tak-China Travel Ship Management Limited. At this building,passengers aboard can transit from Hong Kong International Airport to piers in the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province or vice versa,without immigration and customs clearance through Hong Kong. Passengers can also transit to Macao through coaches or vice versa,without immigration and customs clearance through Hong Kong.
The Pearl River Delta Ring Expressway,officially the Pearl River Delta Region Ring Expressway and designated G94,is an expressway in China,envisioned to encircle the Pearl River Delta region of Guangdong,Hong Kong and Macau. When complete,it will be 456 km (283 mi) in length.
Fuyong Ferry Terminal,also known as the Shenzhen Airport Ferry Terminal,is a ferry terminal on the shore of the Pearl River,located in the Fuyong Subdistrict of the city of Shenzhen,next to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. Passengers have to clear China Immigration at this terminal before heading for Shenzhen Airport;however,they can obtain a 24hr transit at dock when heading for International flights.
Shekou Ferry Terminal was a ferry port located in Shekou,Nanshan District,Shenzhen,China. It allowed for direct ferry connections from Shenzhen to destinations across the Pearl River Delta. It was operated by China Merchant Shekou Ferry Terminal Service Co.,Ltd. It was also known as Shekou Port Ferry Terminal. It was the waterway passenger transportation junction of Shenzhen. Ferry operations were operated by TurboJET and CKS Ferries.
Shekou is an area at the southern tip of Nanshan District,Shenzhen,Guangdong Province,China. It faces Yuen Long,Hong Kong across the Shenzhen Bay. It has been designated as a Free Trade Zone by the government,alongside Qianhai,Hengqin and Nansha New Area.

It runs direct ferry connections from Shenzhen to destinations across the Pearl River Delta. It is operated by China Merchants Shekou Ferry Terminal Service Co.,Ltd. Ferry operations are operated by Xunlong Ferries,TurboJET and CKS Ferries. It can also handle cruise ships docking and replenishment,and is the first cruise terminal in China. This facility replaces the former Shekou Passenger Terminal and is part of a larger urban renewal and redevelopment along Shenzhen Bay.
China Merchants Shenzhen Xunlong Shipping Co. Ltd.,otherwise known as Xunlong Shipping or Xunlong Ferries,operates high speed catamaran ferry services from Shenzhen,Guangdong,China. It is a part of the China Merchants Group.
The Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area,commonly as the Greater Bay Area (GBA),is a megalopolis,consisting of nine cities and two special administrative regions in South China. It is envisioned by Chinese government planners as an integrated economic area aimed at taking a leading role globally by 2035.
