The Port of Dandong is an artificial deep-water seaport on the coast of the city of Dandong, Liaoning Province, People's Republic of China, located at the mouth of the Yalu River, right on the Chinese border with North Korea. It has capacity for very large ships of up to 300,000 DWT. In 2012 it reached a throughput of 96 million metric tons and 125,000 TEU of containers. [1]

Wihwa Island is a river island in the Yalu river, lying on the border between North Korea and China. It is now under the effective jurisdiction of North Korea, due to ethnic Koreans living on the island at the time of the 1962 border treaty.

The Amrok River estuary Important Bird Area comprises the North Korean part of the Amrok, or Yalu, estuary, with an area of 7,000 ha, abutting the border with China on the north-eastern coast of the Yellow Sea. The site has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because it supports up to 20,000 waterbirds. Birds for which the site is significant include swan geese, Baikal teal, black-faced spoonbills, white-naped cranes, red-crowned cranes and Far Eastern curlews. Only 1000 ha of the site is protected in a nature reserve.
