Geographic coordinate system Coordinate system

A geographic coordinate system is a coordinate system that enables every location on Earth to be specified by a set of numbers, letters or symbols. The coordinates are often chosen such that one of the numbers represents a vertical position and two or three of the numbers represent a horizontal position; alternatively, a geographic position may be expressed in a combined three-dimensional Cartesian vector. A common choice of coordinates is latitude, longitude and elevation. To specify a location on a plane requires a map projection.

The Port of Zhuhai is the port of the prefecture-level city of Zhuhai, on the west side of the Pearl River estuary in the Chinese province of Guangdong. The Port of Zhuhai is composed of seven main port areas: Gaolan, Wanshan, Jiuzhou, Xiangzhou, Tangjia, Hongwan and Doumen. [1] The main areas are the Jiuzhou Port Area to the east of the city, and the Gaolan Port Area to the west. As of 2012, the port had 131 berths, 126 production berths, of which 17 were deep-water berths over 10,000DWT. [2]

Zhuhai Prefecture-level city in Guangdong, Peoples Republic of China

Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city on the southern coast of Guangdong province in China. Located in the Pearl River Delta, Zhuhai borders Jiangmen to the northwest, Zhongshan to the north, and Macau to the south. Zhuhai was one of the original Special Economic Zones established in the 1980s. Zhuhai is also one of China's premier tourist destinations, being called the Chinese Riviera. While the city is located in the traditionally Cantonese-speaking region of Guangdong Province, a significant portion of population is now made up of Mandarin speaking economic migrants originally from inland provinces.

Guangdong Most populous province of the Peoples Republic of China

Guangdong, is a province in South China, on the South China Sea coast. Guangdong surpassed Henan and Shandong to become the most populous province in China in January 2005, registering 79.1 million permanent residents and 31 million migrants who lived in the province for at least six months of the year; the total population was 104,303,132 in the 2010 census, accounting for 7.79 percent of Mainland China's population. This also makes it the most populous first-level administrative subdivision of any country outside of South Asia, as its population is surpassed only by those of the Pakistani province of Punjab and the Indian states of Bihar, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. The provincial capital Guangzhou and economic hub Shenzhen are among the most populous and important cities in China. The population increase since the census has been modest, the province registering 108,500,000 people in 2015. Most of the historical Guangdong Province is administered by the People's Republic of China (PRC). However, the archipelagos of Pratas in the South China Sea are controlled by the Republic of China, and were previously part of Guangdong Province before the Chinese Civil War.

The Port had a total cargo throughput of 71.87 million tonnes in 2012, [3] and surpassed the 100 million tonnes mark in 2013. [4]

The Jiujiang Port Area includes a container terminal and a terminal for high-speed ferries connecting Zhuhai with Shenzhen in mainland China and Hong Kong. It is also developing into a transport hub with regular coach services connecting the port with various cities west of the Pearl River such as Jiangmen and Shunde.

Shenzhen Prefecture-level and Sub-provincial city in Guangdong, Peoples Republic of China

Shenzhen is a major city in Guangdong Province, China; it forms part of the Pearl River Delta megalopolis, bordering Hong Kong to the south, Huizhou to the northeast, and Dongguan to the northwest. It holds sub-provincial administrative status, with powers slightly less than those of a province.

Hong Kong East Asian city

Hong Kong, officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and commonly abbreviated as HK, is a special administrative region of China on the eastern side of the Pearl River estuary in southern China. With over 7.4 million people of various nationalities in a 1,104-square-kilometre (426 sq mi) territory, Hong Kong is the world's fourth-most densely populated region.

Pearl River (China) river in China

The Pearl River, also known by its Chinese name Zhujiang and formerly often known as the Canton River, is an extensive river system in southern China. The name "Pearl River" is also often used as a catch-all for the watersheds of the Xi ("West"), Bei ("North"), and Dong ("East") rivers of Guangdong. These rivers are all considered tributaries of the Pearl River because they share a common delta, the Pearl River Delta. Measured from the farthest reaches of the Xi River, the Pearl River system is China's third-longest river, 2,400 kilometres (1,500 mi), after the Yangtze River and the Yellow River, and second largest by volume, after the Yangtze. The 409,480-square-kilometre (158,100 sq mi) Pearl River Basin (珠江流域) drains the majority of Liangguang, as well as parts of Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan and Jiangxi in China; it also drains northern parts of Vietnam's Northeast Cao Bằng and Lạng Sơn provinces.

Zhuhai International Container Terminals (Jiuzhou), ZICT(J), located in the city of Zhuhai on the western bank of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) in the Guangdong Province, adjacent to Macau and 36 nautical miles (67 km) from Hong Kong, commenced operations in 1993. Providing container and general cargo handling services, ZICT(J) operates five multi-purpose berths.

On 10 July 2007, a new ferry service between Jiuzhou port and Skypier in Hong Kong International Airport began. The new service will have two roundtrip sailings per day and can carry 1,300 passengers. The ferries will depart Jiuzhou at 9:30 am and 3:30 pm and leave the airport at 11:15 am and 5 pm every day. The frequency of the 50-minute service will grow to three roundtrip sailings each day by August and four each day by January 2008. [6]

In Spring 2009 the refurbishment of the port had been completed with new stores and facilities for passengers. Numerous gift shops and Fast food chains now have restaurants inside to serve passengers. A light white marble floor and walls brighten up the once dark waiting area. The toilets are now moved to the 1st floor and are clean. Tickets are purchased in the ground floor lobby and the boats are boarded via the first floor.
