Hillen is a small community just west of Hillen Road and Morgan State University and south of Coldspring Lane in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.

Morgan State University is a public historically black university in Baltimore, Maryland. It is Maryland's designated public urban research university and the largest of Maryland's historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). In 1867 the university, then known as the Centenary Biblical Institute, changed its name to Morgan College to honor Reverend Lyttleton Morgan, the first chairman of its board of trustees and a land donor to the college. It became a university in 1975. MSU is a member of Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

The Maryland House of Delegates is the lower house of the legislature of the State of Maryland. It consists of 141 delegates elected from 47 districts. The House of Delegates Chamber is in the Maryland State House on State Circle in Annapolis, the state capital. The State House also houses the Maryland State Senate Chamber and the offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Maryland. Each delegate has offices in Annapolis, in the nearby Casper R. Taylor Jr. House Office Building.

Joan Carter Conway American politician

Joan Carter Conway is an American politician who represents district 43 in the Maryland State Senate. She is the first African American woman to be appointed chairman of any of the standing committees in the Maryland Senate and in 2000 was listed one of "Maryland's Top 100 Women" by the Daily Record.

History

Hillen Road is named for the Hillen Estate. The Hillen family included Colonel Solomon Hillen and Solomon Hillen, Jr., who served as a member of the United States Congress and mayor of Baltimore during the 1840s. [2]

Bromo Arts District

Bromo Arts District is one of three designated arts district in Baltimore, MD and is centered around the Emerson Bromo-Seltzer Tower, which houses artist studios. The district is roughly bounded by Park Avenue on the east, Lombard Street on the south, Paca Street on the west and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Read Street on the north and is adjacent to the neighborhoods of Mount Vernon and downtown Baltimore. It is home to the University of Maryland Medical Center, Lexington Market, Westminster Hall and Edgar Allen Poe's gravesite, the former Martick's Restaurant Francais and many cultural institutions including the Hippodrome Theatre, the Everyman Theatre, and the Eubie Blake National Jazz and Cultural Center. It is also home to A.T. Jones and Sons, the oldest costume company in the United States.
