Kollam Rural Police - Official website

The Kollam Rural Police is the law enforcement agency concerned with the maintenance of law and order in the rural areas of Kollam district in Kerala. The area covers municipalities of Kottarakkara, Punalur and several towns in the district. The Kollam Rural Police is headed by the Kollam District Police Chief of IPS rank. Each subdivision is headed by a DySP rank police officer. The entire district rural police handles an average of 30,000 cases every year. [1]

There are a total of 20 police stations under the control of Kollam Rural Police, 9 of which are under the control of the Kottarakkara Subdivision, 7 stations under Punalur Subdivision and 5 under Sasthamkotta Subdivision. [2]

Kudavattoor is a small village of the Kottarakara Taluk in the Kollam district of the Indian state of Kerala. In the local Malayalam language, kuda means "umbrella" and vattor "round". A predominantly rural village, Kudavattoor comes under the administration of the Veliyam Grama Panchayat made up of Maroor, Cherukarakonam and Kudavattoor chandhamukku. The village is situated on the odanavattom kollam road, which provides access to Kollam via Kundara or Nedumankavu as well as to Kottarakara. Kollam, the district headquarters is situated about 25 km from Kudavattoor.

Valakom is a fast growing town located on Kerala State highway One, in the Kollam district of Kerala, India, with a population of 17928. It lies within Kottarakkara municipal town, Ummannoor and edamulackal Panchayat. Valkom is famous for menkari and kapa puzhikiyathu. In the Valakom market, anyone can buy and sell vegetables, fish and meat. The government library is located around 2 km from the place. Valakom consists of many schools, churches and temples.

The Kollam–Sengottai railway line is a railway line in South India which connects Kollam Junction in Kerala state and Sengottai in Tamil Nadu. The Quilon–Shencottah railway line was the first railway line in the erstwhile Travancore state and is more than a century old. The Kollam–Sengottai section is part of the Kollam–Chennai metre-gauge rail route commissioned by the British in 1904. The line has been completely converted to broad gauge and is now fully operational from Kollam Junction to Shengottai. It is going to be the important cargo transportation line connecting Vizhinjam container port and South Indian States.
