The GOP gained two seats in this election, one in the 10th district with the election of Bob Dold in a rematch with incumbent Brad Schneider, and one in the 12th district with the election of Mike Bost over incumbent William Enyart. The gains narrowed the Democrat margin to 10-8 in the delegation.

The 2022 elections for the Illinois Senate occurred on November 8, 2022 to elect Senators from all of the state's 59 Legislative districts in the Illinois Senate. The primary election took place on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. The winners of this election will serve in the 103rd General Assembly with seats apportioned among the state based on the 2020 United States census. Under the Illinois Constitution of 1970, senators are divided into three groups with each group having a two-year term at a different part of the decade between censuses, with the rest of the decade being taken up by two four-year terms. The Democratic Party has held a majority in the Senate since 2003. The inauguration of the 103rd General Assembly occurred on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

The Chicago Casino Proposals is a request for proposals made to the City of Chicago, for the first casino within city limits. There were 5 original proposals. After vetoing 2, there were 3 remaining after the first round of selections. This included the Bally's Tribune site, the Hard Rock International One Chicago site, and the Rush Street Gaming 78 neighborhood site. On May 5, 2022, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced that the Bally's Tribune site was the choice as the location for a city casino.

Bally's Chicago is an upcoming casino resort that will be built in the city of Chicago, Illinois, United States. In May 2022, Mayor Lori Lightfoot approved Bally's Corporation's bid to construct a casino complex in the city. The complex will be located in the city's River West neighborhood on the bank of the North Branch of the Chicago River, near the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Halsted Street. The plan was approved by the Chicago City Council in May 2022.
