List of cities and towns in Telangana

This is a list of cities (excluding urban agglomerations) that have a population of above 100,000 and towns that have a population of above 20,000 in the state of Telangana.

Categorization

City: or Class I Town: Towns with population of 100,000 and above are called cities. [1] As of 2011, there are six municipal corporations and eight municipalities in the state with populations above 100,000. [2]

Class II Towns: Towns with population between 50,000 and 99,999 [3]

Class III Towns: Towns with population between 20,000 and 49,999 [3]

Note: The statistical data represented here is based on "Census of India 2011", conducted by "The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India" under Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India

The districts in Telangana were organized in 2016 and later 2019, increasing from 10 to 33. [4] [5] As the census reports are based on the old districts in 2011, the cities and towns are categorized under both the present and erstwhile district.

Khammam is the city in Khammam district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is the fourth largest city in the state. It is the headquarters of the Khammam district and Khammam mandal also. It is located about 193 kilometres (120 mi) east of the state capital, Hyderabad, 61 kilometres (38 mi) from Suryapet, 120 kilometres (75 mi) from Warangal and also it is located about 121 kilometres (75 mi) North of the Andhra Pradesh state capital, Amaravathi. The river Munneru flows on the western side of the city. As of 2011 census of India, Khammam urban agglomeration has a population of 313,504. However, on 19 October 2012, the civic body of Khammam was upgraded to a municipal corporation. Post- upgradation to corporation, the population of Khammam was approximated to be 3,07,000.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mahbubnagar</span> City in Telangana, India

Mahabubnagar, formerly known as Rukmammapeta and Palamooru is a city in Mahabubnagar District of the Indian state of Telangana named after the 6th Nizam, Mahboob Ali Khan. It is the headquarters of Mahabubnagar mandal in Mahabubnagar revenue division. The city is also the largest in the district with an area of 39.64 km2 (15.31 sq mi) and 7th most populous in the state.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Karimnagar</span> City in Telangana, India

Karimnagar is also known as Elagandula is a city and District Headquarters in the Indian state of Telangana. Karimnagar is a major urban agglomeration and third largest city in the state. It is governed by the Municipal Corporation and is the headquarters of the Karimnagar district It is situated on the banks of Manair River, which is a tributary of the Godavari River. It is the third largest and fastest growing urban settlement in the state, according to 2011 census. It has registered a population growth rate of 45.46% and 38.87% respectively over the past two decades between 1991 and 2011, which is highest growth rate among major cities of Telangana. It serves as a major educational and health hub for the northern districts of Telangana. It is a major business center and widely known for its agricultural and granite industries, earning the nickname "City of Granites."

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Warangal</span> Metropolitan city in Telangana, India

Warangal is a city in the Indian state of Telangana and the district headquarters of Warangal district. It is the second largest city in Telangana with a population of 704,570 per 2011 Census of India, and spreading over an 406 km2 (157 sq mi). Warangal served as the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty which was established in 1163. The monuments left by the Kakatiyas include fortresses, lakes, temples and stone gateways which, in the present, helped the city to become a popular tourist attraction. The Kakatiya Kala Thoranam was included in the emblem of Telangana by the state government and Warangal is also touted as the cultural capital of Telangana.

Medak is a town in Medak district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is a municipality and the headquarters of Medak mandal in Medak revenue division. And There is a river named srujan which is big in length.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Adilabad</span> City in Telangana, India

Adilabad is a city which serves as the headquarters of Adilabad district, in the Indian state of Telangana. Telugu, Urdu, Marathi, and Lambadi, gondi are the most spoken languages of Adilabad. Adilabad is famous for its rich cultivation of cotton. Hence, Adilabad is also referred as "White Gold City". It is located about 304 kilometres (189 mi) north of the state capital, Hyderabad, 150 kilometres (93 mi) from Nizamabad and 196 kilometres (122 mi) from Nagpur. Adilabad is called as the "Gateway to South India".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ramagundam</span> City in Telangana, India

Ramagundam is a city under municipal corporation in Ramagundam district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is the most populous city in the district and falls under the Ramagundam revenue division. It is located on the banks of the Godavari River. As of the 2011 census, the city had a population of 229,644, making it the 6th most populous in the state, and an urban agglomeration population of 242,979. It is located about 225 km from the state capital Hyderabad.

Kurmalguda 5. Gurramguda 6. Balapur (part) 7. Venkatapur and 8. Mamidipally. The area of the ULB is 74.56 Sq. km. Population as per 2011 Census is 64579 and presently it is estimated to be at 100000.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Boduppal</span> City in Telangana, India

Boduppal is a satellite city of Hyderabad and a municipal corporation in Medchal–Malkajgiri District of Telangana, India. It is administered by Boduppal Municipal Corporation. Located at the eastern end of Hyderabad City, it is spread between Nacharam-Mallapur Road and Warangal Highway NH 163. Due to its proximity to Secunderabad and Eastern IT/SEZ of Pocharam, it is emerging as a major residential location in Hyderabad.

The Nizamabad Municipal Corporation(MCN or NMC) is the local governing body, administering the city of Nizamabad in the Indian state of Telangana. It is the third largest city in the state after Hyderabad and Warangal. As of 2011 census, the municipal corporation had a population of 310,467. The municipal corporation consists of democratically elected members, is headed by a mayor and administers the city's governance, infrastructure and administration.
