List of cities and towns in Telangana

This is a list of cities (excluding urban agglomerations) with a population of above 100,000 and towns with a population of above 20,000 in the state of Telangana.

Categorization

City: or Class I Town: Towns with population of 100,000 and above are called cities. [1] As of 2011, there are six municipal corporations and eight municipalities in the state with populations above 100,000. [2]

Class II Towns: Towns with population between 50,000 and 99,999 [3]

Class III Towns: Towns with population between 20,000 and 49,999 [3]

Note: The statistical data represented here is based on "Census of India 2011", conducted by "The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India" under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India

The districts in Telangana were organized in 2016 and later in 2019, increasing from 10 to 33. [4] [5] As the census reports are based on the old districts in 2011, the cities and towns are categorized under both the present and erstwhile district.

Khammam is the city in Khammam district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is the fourth largest city in the state. It is the headquarters of the Khammam district and Khammam mandal also. It is located about 193 kilometres (120 mi) east of the state capital, Hyderabad, 61 kilometres (38 mi) from Suryapet, 120 kilometres (75 mi) from Warangal and also it is located about 121 kilometres (75 mi) North of the Andhra Pradesh state capital, Amaravathi. The river Munneru flows on the western side of the city. As of 2011 census of India, Khammam urban agglomeration has a population of 313,504. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Mahbubnagar</span> City in Telangana, India

Mahbubnagar, formerly known as Rukmammapeta and Palamooru is a city in Mahbubnagar District of the Indian state of Telangana named after the 6th Nizam of Hyderabad, Mahboob Ali Khan. It is the headquarters of Mahbubnagar mandal in Mahbubnagar revenue division. The city is also the largest in the district with an area of 39.64 km2 (15.31 sq mi) and 7th most populous in the state.

Karimnagar is a city and District Headquarters in the Indian state of Telangana. Karimnagar is a major urban agglomeration and the Second largest city in the state. It is governed by the Municipal Corporation and is the headquarters of the Karimnagar district. It is situated on the banks of Manair River, which is a tributary of the Godavari River. It is the third largest and fastest growing urban settlement in the state, according to the 2011 census. It has registered a population growth rate of 45.46% and 38.87% respectively over the past two decades between 1991 and 2011, which is the highest growth rate among major cities of Telangana. It serves as a major educational and health hub for the northern districts of Telangana. It is a major business center and widely known for its agricultural and granite industries, earning the nickname "City of Granites."

Medak is a town in Medak district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is a municipality and the headquarters of Medak mandal in Medak revenue division. There is a river named Srujan in the area which is long in length.

Adilabad is a city which serves as the headquarters of Adilabad district, in the Indian state of Telangana. Telugu, Urdu, Marathi, and Lambadi, Gondi are the most spoken languages of Adilabad. Adilabad is famous for its extensive cultivation of cotton. Hence, Adilabad is also referred as "White Gold City". It is located about 304 kilometres (189 mi) north of the state capital, Hyderabad, 150 kilometres (93 mi) from Nizamabad and 196 kilometres (122 mi) from Nagpur.

Ramagundam is a city under municipal corporation in Peddapalli district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is the most populous city in the district and falls under the Ramagundam revenue division. It is located on the banks of the Godavari River. As of the 2011 census, the city had a population of 229,644, making it the 6th most populous in the state, and an urban agglomeration population of 242,979. It is located about 225 km from the state capital Hyderabad.

Badangpet is a satellite city of Hyderabad located in Rangareddy district of Telangana, India. It is one of the 13 Municipal Corporations in Telangana. It is newly constituted as Municipal Corporation from Nagar Panchayat, which was formed on 26–03–2013. It was formed by merging (8) erstwhile villages i.e. 1. Badangpet 2. Almasguda 3. Nadergul 4. Kurmalguda 5. Gurramguda 6. Balapur (part) 7. Venkatapur and 8. Mamidipally. The area of the ULB is 74.56 Sq. km. Population as per 2011 Census is 64579 and presently it is estimated to be at 100000.

Hyderabad Metropolitan Region is the metropolitan area covered by the city of Hyderabad in the Indian state of Telangana. The entire region is spread over the districts of Hyderabad District, Bhuvanagiri, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Medak, and Siddipet. Under the jurisdiction of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, it covers an area of 7,257 km2 (2,802 sq mi) and has a population of 10.7 million people.
