Sheikh Hasina is a Bangladeshi politician who served as the tenth prime minister of Bangladesh from June 1996 to July 2001 and again from January 2009 to August 2024. She is the daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh. She served in the position of prime minister for over 20 years, making her the longest-serving prime minister in history of Bangladesh. Thus, she became the world's longest-serving female head of government. Her authoritarian regime ended in self-imposed exile following an uprising in 2024.

The Ganabhaban located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, north of the National Parliament House, served as the official residence of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh until the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In the aftermath of the Student–People's uprising in July 2024, the residence is undergoing transformation into a museum, to be named the July Uprising Memorial Museum.

General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was another landslide victory for the Awami League-led Grand Alliance led by Sheikh Hasina. The elections were marred by violence, and were widely considered by opposition politicians and the international community to be rigged.

Sheikh Rehana Siddiq is a Bangladesh Awami League politician. Sheikh Helal Uddin is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a former member of Jatiya Sangsad representing the Bagerhat-1 constituency during 1996–2024. He has been missing since the fall of his cousin Sheikh Hasina's government on 5 August 2024.

Karnaphuli Tunnel, also known as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, is an underwater expressway tunnel in the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh under the Karnaphuli River. The length of the entire route is 9.39 kilometres (5.83 mi), with the tunnel making up 3.32 kilometres (2.06 mi) of the length. The tunnel diameter is 10.80 metres (35.4 ft). It is expected, over 17,000 vehicles will be able to use this tunnel daily. The cost of the project is estimated at US$1.1B, of which around half is financed by the Exim Bank of China. The Karnaphuli Tunnel is the first underwater road tunnel in South Asia. It is expected to improve the Dhaka–Chittagong–Cox's Bazar highway network. A Chinese company, China Communications Construction Company, was selected to construct it. The tunnel segments were produced in Zhenjiang, China.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sheikh Russel</span> Youngest child of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (1964–1975)

Sheikh Russel was the youngest child of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the former President of Bangladesh. Russel and most of his direct family were killed in their home during the 1975 military coup.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bangabandhu Memorial Museum</span> Museum in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, also known as Bangabandhu Bhaban or Dhanmondi 32, located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh, was the personal residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was also called Bangabandhu, the founding leader and president of Bangladesh. Mujib was assassinated with most members of his family in this residence. The museum was listed as a national heritage site in 2009 by RAJUK and was largely damaged in a mob violence in 2024.

Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury is a Bengali poet and a member of the Bangladesh Civil Service. he is the former adviser to the prime minister of Bangladesh. He was the Chief Coordinator of the National Implementation Committee for the Celebration of Mujib Borsho, the Birth Centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh. He is a former Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Lebukhali Cantonment is the headquarters of 7th Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army. It is located in Lebukhali, Barishal. The area of the cantonment is 1532 acres. The project will be completed by the Ministry of Defence by June 2021.

Mahbubul Alam Hanif is a Bangladeshi politician and businessman. He is a former member of parliament for Kushtia-3 served in 2014. Currently he is a joint general secretary of the Awami League. He worked at the Prime Minister's Office as special assistant to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from 2009 to 2013.

Abdus Sobhan Golap is a politician and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Madaripur-3 constituency. He is the current Publicity and Publications Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League.

The Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust is a trust owned by the Government of Bangladesh, that is responsible for the welfare of journalists in Bangladesh. The Minister of Information chairs the trustee board of the trust.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Premiership of Sheikh Hasina</span> Period of the Government of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2001 and 2009-2024

Sheikh Hasina's tenure as Prime Minister of Bangladesh began on 23 June 1996, when she assumed office after her party, the Awami League, won the general election, succeeding Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Her first term lasted until 15 July 2001. She returned to office on 6 January 2009 following her party’s landslide victory in the 2008 general election and has remained in power since, with further electoral wins in 2014, 2018 and 2024 general elections, though these elections was widely criticised for lacking transparency, with opposition parties boycotting those elections and international observers alleging vote manipulation and suppression. Her premiership ended in August 2024 following the Student–People's uprising against her government, in which, she resigned and fled to India, marking the conclusion of her 15-year uninterrupted rule.
