Orders, decorations, and medals of Vietnam

The Orders, decorations, and medals of Vietnam are specified by that country's National Assembly through the Law on Emulation and Commendation (No: 15/2003/QH11).^[1] Per this law, emulation aims to create a motive force to mobilize, attract and encourage all individuals and collectives to promote their patriotic tradition, dynamism and creativity in striving to well accomplish the assigned tasks for the objective of a prosperous people, a strong country, an equitable, democratic and civilized society.^[2] Commendation forms include: Order; State honorable title.

Medals shall be awarded to officers, professional armymen, defense workers working in agencies and units of the People's Army; officers, professional non-commissioned officers working in agencies and units of the People's Police, and foreigners who have, for a period of time, devoted and/or made contributions to the cause of national construction and defense.

	Gold Star Order Huân chương sao vàng	June 6, 1947	The noblest order of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; conferred or posthumously conferred on individuals who satisfy one of the following criteria: Having rendered great and exceptionally outstanding meritorious services in the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation; Having rendered great and exceptionally outstanding meritorious services to the country in one of the political, economic, social, literature, art, scientific, technological, defense, security, diplomatic or other domains.

	Military Exploit Order Huân chương quân công	May 15, 1947	Individuals have recorded outstanding and brave exploits in combat, combat service, training, force building, consolidation of the all-people defense and people's security, or have sacrificed their lives heroically, setting bright examples in the whole country.
	Labour Order Huân chương lao động	May 1, 1950	Individuals or collectives have recorded outstanding achievements in labor, creativity or national construction.
	Fatherland Defense Order Huân chương bảo vệ tổ quốc	November 26, 2003	Individuals or collectives have recorded achievements in training and building forces, consolidating the all-people defense and people's security.
	Feat Order Huân chương chiến công	May 15, 1947	Individuals or collectives have recorded exceptionally outstanding feats in combat or combat service.
	Great National Unity Order Huân chương đại đoàn kết dân tộc	November 26, 2003	Individuals have a long process of devotion, have rendered great meritorious services and recorded exceptionally outstanding achievements in the cause of building the great national unity block.

	Determined-to-Win Military Flag Medal Huy chương quân kỳ quyết thắng	October 27, 1984	Officers, professional armymen or defense workers who have served in the People's Army for 25 or more consecutive years.
	For National Security Medal Huy chương vì an ninh tổ quốc	November 26, 2003	Officers, professional non-commissioned officers who have served in the People's Police for 25 or more consecutive years.
	Glorious Fighter Medal Huy chương chiến sĩ vẻ vang	September 12, 1961	Officers, professional armymen or defense workers working in agencies or units of the People's Army, and officers and professional non-commissioned officers working in agencies or units of the People's Police.
	Friendship Medal Huy chương hữu nghị	November 26, 2003	Foreigners who have worked in Vietnam for a certain period, made many contributions to the cause of construction and defense of Vietnam.

The Australian honours and awards system excludes all state and local government, and private, issued awards and medals.

United States law enforcement decorations are awarded by the police forces of the United States of America. Since the United States has a decentralized police force, with separate independent departments existing on the state and local level, there are thousands of law enforcement decorations in existence.

The orders and decorations conferred upon civilians and military personnel in the Republic of the Philippines are listed by orders of precedence. Philippine civilian orders and decorations are conferred by the President of the Philippines in his or her capacity as head of state. The Order of Ho Chi Minh is a decoration of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam that was first instituted on 6 June 1947. The creator of the order was the president Hồ Chí Minh.

Awards and decorations of the United States government are civilian awards of the U.S. federal government which are typically issued for sustained meritorious service, in a civilian capacity, while serving in the U.S. federal government. Certain U.S. government awards may also be issued to military personnel of the United States Armed Forces and be worn in conjunction with awards and decorations of the United States military. North Vietnam, South Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand and the United States all issued awards and decorations to their personnel during, or after, the conflict.

The Order of Lakandula is one of the highest civilian orders of the Philippines, established on September 19, 2003. It is awarded for political and civic merit and in memory of Lakandula’s dedication to the responsibilities of leadership, prudence, fortitude, courage and resolve in the service of one’s people.

Gold Star Order is the highest decoration in Vietnam awards and decorations awarded by the Government of Vietnam for a military or civil "personnel who completed exceptional service or organization established excellent achievement for the revolutionary cause of the Party and Nation." The order was established on June 6, 1947, following the decree No. 58/SL by the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, its design was modified by the Law of Emulation and Reward promulgated on November 26, 2003.

The Japanese honours system is a system implemented for rewarding awards to Japanese and non-Japanese persons for their achievements and service to Japan. The Emperor is the head of the honors system in Japan.

The Labor Order is an award conferred or posthumously conferred by the Government of Vietnam on individuals and conferred on collectives that have recorded outstanding achievements in labor, creativity or national construction. There are three Labour Order awards. The basic award is the 3rd class which has one star, the 2nd class award has two stars and the highest 1st class award has three stars.

The Feat Order is a service award conferred by the Government of Vietnam for "exceptionally outstanding feats, brave, wise, creative in excellently fulfilled assigned tasks in combat service". It was established in 1947, and can be awarded to military personnel, individual civilians, or collectives.

The Friendship Order is a service award conferred by the Government of Vietnam for "foreigners and on collectives of foreigners who have made great contributions to building, consolidating and developing the friendship between Vietnam and other countries in the world."

The Medal of Honor (MOH) is the United States Armed Forces' highest military decoration and is awarded to recognize American soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, guardians, and coast guardsmen who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor. The medal is normally awarded by the President of the United States and is presented "in the name of the United States Congress." It is often, not strictly correctly, referred to as the Congressional Medal of Honor.

The South Korean honors system includes orders of merit, medals of honor, and commendations conferred by the South Korean government onto its citizens and foreigners.

The Greek honors system goes back to 1829 and the establishment of the Order of the Redeemer at the Fourth National Assembly at Argos. However, the relevant decree was signed in Nafplio by King Otto on May 20, 1833. The Grand Cross of the Order of the Redeemer remains the highest honor of Greece to this day.

The following is a list of the orders and medals issued by the People's Republic of China since its founding. The Working Committee of Party and State Merit and Honour Commendation is responsible for coordinating the work of Party and state merit and honor commendation.
