Administratively Howrah lies within Howrah district and is the headquarters of the Howrah Sadar subdivision; it is also part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). The 18045 / 18046 East Coast Express is a daily train that runs between Charlapalli.T Hyderabad and Shalimar (Kolkata). Earlier this train's terminating stations were Hyderabad Deccan and Howrah. From 2022 the terminal has been shifted from Howrah to Shalimar And on the other end from Jan 2025 Train Terminal has been shifted from Hyderabad Deccan to Charlapalli for decongesting the existing stations and to provide better service between Hyderabad and Kolkata. The Kolkata Tram System, is a tram system that serves Kolkata, the capital city of the Indian state of West Bengal, operated by West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) after Calcutta Tramways Company (CTC) was merged with WBTC. Being started in 1873 Kolkata tram is the second oldest operating tram network in the world after Turin (1871). Being electrified in 1902, Calcutta became the first Asian City with electric tramway. The Kolkata Tram is the only tram system operating now in India. With the help of periodic negligence, the Government of West Bengal had formed systematic initiatives to suspend the entire tram network from the city and sell properties. However, an apolitical organization named Calcutta Tram Users Association (CTUA) was formed in 2016 to advocate in favor of Kolkata's tram system. The network initially had up to 37 lines in the 1960s, but has gradually reduced over the years with only two lines currently operating due to financial struggles, poor maintenance, low ridership, addition of road flyovers, expansion of the Kolkata Metro, slow tram speed and perceptions that the trams are outdated and occupy too much road space. There are currently two tram routes running which are route 5 and route 25.
The Calcutta Chord linkline, also known as the C.C. link line, is a 22 km (14 mi) long branch line of the Kolkata Suburban Railway which comes under the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway's Sealdah Division & Howrah Division.
Kanchrapara railway station is a Kolkata Suburban Railway station in Kanchrapara on the Sealdah–Ranaghat line. It is situated in North 24 Parganas district, on the outskirts of Kolkata in the state of West Bengal, India. It mainly serves the Greater Kanchrapara town region and the surrounding areas. This is a considerably important station on the Sealdah–Ranaghat line because of the existence of the Kanchrapara Railway Workshop. There were plans of making this crowded station a junction stop, but this has not been initiated yet, mainly due to the less space available to expand the station. The distance between Sealdah railway station and Kanchrapara station is about 45 km.
The South Eastern Line of Kolkata Suburban Railway is a suburban railway line serving Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It consists of 37 stations from Howrah Junction to Midnapore. The entire line is at grade level. It has section of triple track starting from Howrah Junction and ends at Midnapore, Amta, Haldia and Digha stations in West Bengal.
