On election day, October 30, 1817, incumbent Democratic-Republican acting governor Isaac Halstead Williamson was elected by the New Jersey General Assembly to a full term as he ran unopposed, thereby retaining Democratic-Republican control over the office of governor. Williamson was sworn in for his first full term that same day. [2]
