The 'Amrapali' mango is a named mango cultivar introduced in 1971. It was developed as a hybrid variety of 'Dasheri' and 'Neelum' by Dr. Pijush Kanti Majumdar at the Indian Agriculture Research Institute in Delhi. Since then this mango has been introduced to farms and orchards across India. Amrapali Mango was first planted in West Bengal in Chakdaha, Nadia district. The seed was given by Dr. Pijush Kanti Majumdar.
The tree is a dwarf, regular-bearer, with clusters of small-sized fruits. Its flesh is a deep orange-red and contains approximately 2.5–3.0 times more β carotene content than other commercial varieties of mango. However, it is known to have a shorter shelf life. The average yield is 16 tonnes / hectare. [1] [2]

Haji Kalimullah Khan, popularly known as Mango man, is an Indian horticulturist and fruit breeder, known for his accomplishments in breeding mangoes and other fruits. He is known to have grown over 300 different varieties of mangoes on a single tree, using grafting techniques. Born in Malihabad, near Lucknow in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Khan dropped out of school at 7th standard and took to the family business of farming. Using the asexual propagation technique of grafting, he has developed several new varieties of mangoes, some of which has been named after celebrities and political leader such as Sachin Tendulkar, Aishwarya Rai, Akhilesh Yadav, Sonia Gandhi, Narendra Modi, Amit Shah etc. Anarkali, a variety of mango developed by him is reported to have two different skins and two different layers of pulp, each having a different taste. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to horticulture.
Niaz Ahmad Chaudhry born in 1949 in District Jhang. He completed his M.Sc. (Hons) in 1974 in the field of Horticulture. After serving for three years in different organizations he joined Punjab agriculture research in the horticulture group in 1976. He served in several research stations and institutions and conducted research on various fruit crops such as Mango, Date, Citrus etc. The research conducted during his service was got published in national research journals.
The mango fruit is commonly dried and eaten as a snack.
