The 'Rataul' mango, is a mango cultivar primarily grown in Rataul of Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, India. [1] [2] [3]

Description

Characterized by its greenish-yellow color, this medium-sized mango reveals a luscious orange pulp, with a captivating aroma and offering an very sweet and delicious taste. [4]

Name & Origins

Named after its birthplace in Rataul, Uttar Pradesh, the Rataul mango was introduced to Pakistan when migrants from India took its seeds and began cultivating it in Multan. [5]

Geographical indication

It was awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) status tag from the Geographical Indications Registry under the Union Government of India on 14 September 2021 (valid until 4 April 2030). [6]

Rataul Mango Producers Association from Rataul proposed the GI registration of the Rataul Mango. After filing the application in 2010, the fruit was granted the GI tag in 2021 by the Geographical Indication Registry in Chennai, making the name "Rataul Mango" exclusive to the mangoes grown in the region. [7] It thus became the second mango variety from Uttar Pradesh after Malihabadi Dussheri Mango and the 34th type of goods from Uttar Pradesh to earn the GI tag.

Banganapalle mangoes is a mango variety produced in Banganapalle of Nandyal District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It alone occupies 70% percent of total mango cultivable area of the state and was first introduced by the farmers of Banaganapalli. It was registered as one of the geographical indication from Andhra Pradesh on 3 May 2017, under horticultural products by Geographical Indication Registry. It is also grown in the other parts of India and Pakistan. The fruit is described as obliquely oval in shape, around 20cm in length, with yellow flesh and a thin, smooth yellow skin. The flesh is of a firm, meaty texture and is sweet and lacks fibre. The cultivar is the most sought after in Andhra Pradesh. It is a very late-season variety that is good for canning. This cultivar is a source of vitamin A & C and is also called king of Mangoes.

Rataul is a village located in the Khekra tehsil, in the Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh state, India. It is 25 km (16 mi) from the Indian capital of Delhi, and also 7 km (4.3 mi) from Loni.

Widely considered as the best mango, the inside of Himsagar is yellow to orange in colour and does not have any fibre.
