The Ōtira River is located in the central South Island of New Zealand. It rises on the slopes of Mount Rolleston in the Southern Alps / Kā Tiritiri o te Moana, and flows north for 20 kilometres (12 mi), passing through the town of Otira before joining the Taramakau River. The Taramakau's outflow is into the Tasman Sea, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south of Greymouth.

HMS Loch Achray was a Loch-class frigate of the Royal Navy. She was built by Smith's Dock Co. Ltd. in South Bank-on-Tees and launched on 7 July 1944. After service in World War II, she was sold to the Royal New Zealand Navy and renamed HMNZS Kaniere (F426) in September 1948. After service in the Korean War, she was used as a training ship from 1957. She was sold in 1966 for breaking up in Hong Kong.
Kaniere is a small town in the Westland District of the West Coast region of New Zealand's South Island. Hokitika lies to the north-west, and the Hokitika River flows past to the south-west.
Wheatstone is a locality in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It is located on the Canterbury Plains south of Ashburton, on the banks of the Ashburton River / Hakatere. Other nearby settlements include Huntingdon to the north, Eiffelton and Flemington to the west, Ashton and Waterton to the south, and Riverside and Wakanui to the east on the opposite side of the Ashburton River / Hakatere. Wheatstone is slightly inland from the coastline of the Pacific Ocean.

A major tributary of the Hokitika River, it flows northwest from its origins on the northern slopes of Mount Ambrose, reaching the Hokitika River 12 kilometres from the latter's mouth at Hokitika. The two rivers between them share one of the West Coast's larger floodplains.
The Nancy River is a river of the West Coast Region of New Zealand's South Island. A tributary of the Ahaura River, it flows generally southwest from its source to the west of Mount Hochstsetter in the Southern Alps, turning west shortly before its outflow, 15 kilometres southeast of Lake Hochstetter.
The Rough River, alternatively known as the Otututu River is a river of the West Coast Region of New Zealand's South Island. A major tributary of the Grey River, it flows south from its sources near Mount Uriah in the Paparoa Range 20 kilometres southeast of Charleston, to reach the Grey River to the southwest of the settlement of Ikamatua. The river is currently shown on maps as Otututu (Rough) River, although this orthography is no longer common for New Zealand Rivers.

Mount Graham is a mountain in the West Coast Region of New Zealand with an elevation of 829 metres above sea level. Lake Kaniere is immediately east of Mount Graham.
The Hokitika & Kanieri Tramway was an 3.5 kilometres (2 mi) long, privately owned bush tramway with a gauge of 3 ft 6 in between Hokitika and Kaniere in the Westland District on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand, which operated from 1866 to 1914 as a horse-drawn tram and from the 1920s to 1950s as a logging railway.
