The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra is a symphony orchestra based in Hong Kong. Colloquially referred to as the HKPO or HKPhil, the orchestra was first established in 1947 as an amateur orchestra under the name Sino-British Orchestra (中英管弦樂團), it was renamed the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 1957 and became a professional orchestra in 1974 under the funding of the government.
The National Philharmonic Orchestra was a British orchestra created exclusively for recording purposes. It was founded by RCA Records producer and conductor Charles Gerhardt and orchestra leader and contractor Sidney Sax. The orchestra was created partly due to the requirements of an extensive recording project for the Reader's Digest.

Jeffrey Alan Kahane is an American classical concert pianist and conductor. He was music director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra for 20 years, the longest of any music director in the orchestra's history. He is the music director of the Sarasota Music Festival, a program of the Sarasota Orchestra, music director-designate of the San Antonio Philharmonic, and a professor of keyboard studies (Piano) at the USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles, California.

The nominations were criticised by many music journalists as Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy missed out on a nomination for Album of the Year despite being highly critically acclaimed and topping many end of year charts. West's album went on to win Best Rap Album.

Jasmine Kaur Sandlas is an American playback singer, television personality, performer, songwriter who mainly sings Punjabi songs. Sandlas was born in Jalandhar, India and raised in Stockton, California. Sandlas's first song, "Muskan" (2008), became a hit. In 2014, she began her Bollywood playback singing career with the song "Yaar Na Miley" for the film Kick. Upon its release, "Yaar Na Miley" went viral, topped the charts, and earned Sandlas wide critical acclaim for her singing style. She also received several awards, including the "Most Popular Song of the Year 2016" "Most popular song of year 2016 – PTC Punjabi Film Awards" and Screen Award for Best Female Playback. She was also featured on the TEDx Talks, MTV Coke Studio and Spoken Word platforms.

The ceremony's location marked the first time the Recording Academy switched host cities for a single ceremony. This also makes it the first Grammy Awards ceremony to not to be held in either New York City or Los Angeles since the 15th Grammy Awards in 1973 when it was held at the Tennessee Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee. It marked the first time the telecast took place in Las Vegas.
