Sprocket hole photography is a style of photography that exposes the full width of a perforated film such as 35mm film, creating a photograph punctuated by the "sprocket holes" (perforations) along the edges of the film. While 35mm film is by far the most popular gauge, other perforated film gauges may be used, such as 8mm, super 8, 9.5mm, 16mm and 65/70mm.[ citation needed ] Usually, this style involves the use of a modified medium format camera, since a standard 35 mm camera ordinarily will not expose the edges of the film. The Sprocket Rocket is a camera specifically designed for this purpose.

Redscale is a technique of shooting photographic film where the film is exposed from the wrong side, i.e. the emulsion is exposed through the base of the film. Normally, this is done by winding the film upside-down into an empty film canister. The name "redscale" comes because there is a strong color shift to red due to the red-sensitive layer of the film being exposed first, rather than last [the red layer is normally the bottom layer in C-41 film]. All layers are sensitive to blue light, so normally the blue layer is on top, followed by a filter. In this technique, blue light exposes the layers containing cyan and magenta dyes, but the layer containing yellow dye is left unexposed due to the filter. E-6 film has also been used for this technique.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kine Exakta</span> First 35mm SLR still camera

The Kine Exakta was the first 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) still camera in regular production. It was presented by Ihagee Kamerawerk Steenbergen GmbH, Dresden at the Leipziger Frühjahrsmesse in March 1936. The Exakta name had already been used by Ihagee on a roll film rangefinder RF camera line since 1933, among these the Vest Pocket Exakta Model B from which the Kine Exakta inherited its general layout and appearance. The word Kine never appeared on the camera itself, only in the instruction manuals and advertising to distinguish it from the roll film variants. Several of its features constituted the foundation for the majority of 35mm SLR cameras produced ever since, although at this stage in a relatively primitive state.
