The visa policy of the Schengen Area is an element within the wider area of freedom, security and justice policy of the European Union. It applies to the Schengen Area and to other EU member states except Ireland. The visa policy allows nationals of certain countries to enter the Schengen Area via air, land or sea without a visa for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Nationals of certain other countries are required to have a visa either upon arrival or in transit.
Visitors to the mainland of the People's Republic of China must obtain a visa from one of the Chinese diplomatic missions, unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. The two Special Administrative Regions – Hong Kong and Macau – maintain their own independent border control policies and thus have their own separate visa requirements.

The immigration officer at the port of entry may ask the passenger to produce any necessary documents.

South Korea maintains a visa waiver agreement list and a designated visa-free entry list with countries not included on those lists requiring a visa to enter the country. In addition, foreigners wishing to engage in certain activities such as diplomatic work, gainful employment, study or residence must apply for the appropriate visa prior to engaging in that activity in country.
A common visa exists since the end of 2010 for the territories of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the Caribbean Netherlands which form together the territory of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean. The visa is not valid for the European part of the Netherlands, which is part of the Schengen Area.
Most visitors to Malaysia are granted visa-free entry for a period of 90, 30, or 14 days respectively. However, nationals of some countries must first obtain a visa from one of the Malaysian diplomatic missions before being allowed into the country. Visitors to Thailand must obtain a visa from one of the Thai diplomatic missions unless they come from a visa-exempt country or a country whose citizens are eligible to obtain visas on arrival/eVisa.
Most visitors to Ecuador can enter the country without a visa. However, some visitors of certain countries must first obtain a visa in advance before being allowed to enter the country. Visitors may stay up to 90 days, except citizens of Peru, who are allowed a maximum stay of 180 days, and citizens of China who are allowed to stay for 90 days per calendar year. All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months, except for citizens of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. Citizens of those countries can also enter Ecuador with ID card.
Most visitors to Mauritius are visa exempt or can obtain a visa on arrival. However, some countries must obtain a visa in advance before being allowed into the country.
Visitors to Vietnam must obtain a visa from one of the Vietnamese diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries or countries eligible for electronic visas. However, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam, the issuance of visas was temporarily suspended. On March 15, 2022, Vietnam reopened its borders and resumed its pre-pandemic entry and exit policies though 90 day visas, available pre-pandemic via consular offices worldwide, have remained unavailable.
Visitors to Cambodia must obtain a visa unless they are a citizen of one of the visa-exempt countries. All visitors must hold a passport that is valid for at least six months and contains at least one empty page.

Pakistan also offers electronic visa application and electronic travel authorization for issuance of visa on arrival.

Starting December 3, 2021, all visitors to Burundi, unless they come from one of the visa-exempt countries mentioned below, can obtain a visa upon arrival at Bujumbura International Airport and all land borders. They can also obtain from one of the Burundian diplomatic missions before entering the country.
