Secondary education is the last six or seven years of statutory formal education in the United States. It culminates with twelfth grade. Whether it begins with sixth grade or seventh grade varies by state and sometimes by school district.
Singapore American School (SAS) is a non-profit, independent, co-educational day school located in the Woodlands area of Singapore. It offers an American-based curriculum for students in preschool through high school. One of Singapore's first international schools, SAS was founded in 1956 and started with a hundred students in a colonial house. It has since developed into a school of over 4,000 students on a 36-acre campus. SAS is accredited by the US-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
St. Thomas' Episcopal School (STES) is a private, co-ed Episcopal institution serving Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. It is located in the Meyerland area of Houston, Texas. The school has 553 students and 111 faculty members. It is accredited by the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools and is a member of the Houston Association of Independent Schools (HAIS) and the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS). Starting in 2020, STES will embark on a $29,000,000 construction project to restore and enhance the school campus. Construction is set to finish in the fall of 2021.
Surabaya International School, Indonesia, was founded in 1971 as a non-profit, English-medium, college preparatory school for foreign students under the sponsorship of the American consulate. It was called the American Consulate School and began operation with 24 students, including American, Japanese, Australian, German, and New Zealander students. Today, it is a pre-K through grade 12 school governed by a seven-member school board elected by the foundation consisting of parents of children of the school. The school is the only school in Surabaya accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. SIS graduates go on to four-year college programs in the US, Australia, Singapore or home country universities. The school staff consists of faculty and administration from eight countries. Of these staff members, 55% have advanced or graduate degrees.
