The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St George is the Greek Orthodox church of Cape Town, South Africa, located in the district of Woodstock, and the seat of the Metropolitan of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Good Hope, under the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa. [1] [2]

The cathedral, believed to be the oldest Greek Orthodox church in Africa, [3] is a Neoclassical church built as St George's Church in 1903–1904 by the Greek community. [4] The interior is noted for its frescoes in the Byzantine style. [1] In 1968 the church was elevated to the status of cathedral. [4]

The Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain is an archdiocese of the Eastern Orthodox Church, part of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Its present head is Archbishop Nikitas Loulias. Gregorios Theocharous Former Archbishop

Gregorios Theocharous of Thyateira and Great Britain served as the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. He was elected Archbishop by the Sacred and Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on 16 April 1988. He resigned on 12 June 2019 for health reasons and has been succeeded by Nikitas Loulias. He died on 20 November 2019. His funeral took place on 5 December 2019 at St Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, Wood Green.
