The Cape Flats Line is a commuter rail line in Cape Town, South Africa, operated by Metrorail Western Cape. It connects central Cape Town with the suburbs of Pinelands, Athlone, Lansdowne, Ottery, Southfield, Healthfield and Retreat.

Route

The Cape Flats Line service begins at the central Cape Town railway station, from which it runs east along the Cape Town–Bellville main line as far as Maitland. After Maitland station it goes off to the south, passing along the western edge of Pinelands before crossing under the N2 freeway and over the Black River. It then continues south through Athlone and Lansdowne, and then south-west through Ottery and Southfield, before joining the Southern Line route at Heathfield. Services on the Cape Flats Line terminate at occasionally at Heathfield, with the line terminus being Retreat. [1] Cape Flats Line

Operation

The line is made up of double 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) track, electrified with 3,000 V DC overhead catenary. Services are operated by electric multiple units of X'Trapolis Mega

Ottery is a suburb in Cape Town, South Africa. It is on the edge of the Southern Suburbs. The Youngsfield Military Base, Royal Cape Golf Club and Cape Town's 'official' China Town are located in the suburb. Every year the Youngsfield Military Base in Ottery hosts the Cape Argus Junior Cycle Tour on 12 March. The name was derived off the Otter sanctuary which was opened here in the early 1900's, but sadly was closed down as the neighbourhood rapidly expanded later in the century.

College of Cape Town (CCT), is a public TVET College located in Cape Town, South Africa, in the province of Western Cape, and it mainly serves students from the Southern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs region, along with Klipfontein District. The college is one of the oldest TVET institutions in Cape Town. CCT was founded in 1900 making it the oldest TVET college in South Africa.
