2005 FIFA World Player of the Year

The 2005 FIFA World Player of the Year prize was awarded to the Brazilian Ronaldinho for the second year in succession, [1] also claiming the highest point total ever, surpassing Rivaldo. He finished ahead of Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard and his Barcelona teammate Samuel Eto'o in the final round of voting. [2]

The 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup football tournament was the seventh FIFA Confederations Cup. It was held in Germany between 15 June and 29 June 2005, as a prelude to the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The tournament was won by 2002 FIFA World Cup winners Brazil, who defeated Argentina 4–1 in the final at the Waldstadion in Frankfurt. The FIFA Presidential Award was a FIFA association football award given annually at the FIFA World Player Gala. It was first awarded by the then President of FIFA Sepp Blatter in 2001, and has not been awarded since 2014 due to Blatter's suspension from all football activities in 2015.

The 2004–05 season saw Futbol Club Barcelona end their six-year wait for the La Liga title, having not won the league or, indeed, any trophy since the 1998–99 season and thus La Liga trophy returned to Barcelona's trophy room. Having finished second in La Liga the previous season, Barcelona once again competed in the UEFA Champions League as well as the Copa del Rey. Jorge Augusto da Cunha Gabriel, better known as Jorginho, is a Brazilian former beach soccer player who played as a winger. In 2018, his retirement from the sport was announced, however he made one final appearance for Brazil in January 2019, a testimonial match in which his friend Ronaldinho also participated.
