Colony Square is a mixed-use development and sub-district in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia, located on Peachtree Street in between 14th and 15th Streets. The oldest high-rise development in Midtown, the sub-district was built between 1969 and 1975, with Henri Jova of Jova/Daniels/Busby serving as principal architect. [1] It was the first mixed-use development in the Southeast.
Designed in modernist style, Colony Square comprises three skyscrapers, two containing offices (Colony Square 100 and Colony Square 400) and one housing a hotel, the W Hotels Atlanta-Midtown. The three skyscrapers are connected by Colony Square Mall, located beneath a sky-lit atrium and offering a food court, ice skating rink, retail, and an athletic club. The original architectural and social concept of Colony Square was the USA's first 'micropolis' - the complex designed for urban professionals to live and work in a common space. Also within the sub-district are three mid-rise condominium buildings (two comprise Colony House and the third, Hanover House). Colony Square also contains street-level restaurants, including 5Church Atlanta, Establishment, Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, and Sukoshi. [2] [3] [4]
North American Properties agreed to terms with Tishman Speyer to purchase the property for $164.5 million in Q4 2015. The deal will include the retail and office space, but not the condominiums and hotel that are part of the complex. [5] North American Properties has major renovation plans for the retail component. [5] The new owner demolished the former mall to create an open green space with a stage surrounded by new shops and a new office building anchored by Whole Foods Market Inc. [6] A second new office building anchored by Jones Day [7] is also being constructed. Upon completion of the redevelopment project, Colony Square will feature 912,000 square feet of office space and 160,000 square feet of shops and entertainment space, including a food hall and IPIC movie theater. The Consulate-General of Canada is located in 100 Colony Square Building (Suite 1700), [12] as is the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (Suite 1206). [13] WebMD has regional offices located on the top two floors of Colony Square 400. The complex is also home to the broadcast studios of the Entercom Atlanta (previously called CBS Radio Atlanta before being acquired) stations of WVEE, WZGC, WAOK and WSTR, as well as digital advertising agency Ammunition (Suite 1450).
In 1995 the Consulate-General of Japan in Atlanta was located in Colony Square. [14] In 2002 the consulate announced it was moving from Colony Square to One Alliance Center. The consulate had over three years left in the lease of Colony Square. Because Trizec Properties owned both office properties, the consulate was easily able to move to its new location. [15]
Coworking companies WeWork and Spaces are located at Colony Square. WeWork [16] occupies five floors at 100 Colony Square. Spaces [17] occupies three floors at 400 Colony Square, including a street-level café.
Bank of America Plaza is a supertall skyscraper between Midtown Atlanta and Downtown Atlanta. At 311.8 m (1,023 ft), as of February 2024 the tower is the 23rd tallest building in the United States, the tallest building in the Southeastern region of the United States, and the tallest building in any U.S. state capital, overtaking the 250 m (820 ft), 50-story One Atlantic Center in height, which held the record as Georgia's tallest building. It has 55 stories of office space and was completed in 1992, when it was called NationsBank Plaza. Originally intended to be the headquarters for Citizens & Southern National Bank, it became NationsBank's property following its formation in the 1991 hostile takeover of C&S/Sovran by NCNB.
One Ninety One Peachtree Tower is a 235 m (771 ft) 50-story skyscraper in Atlanta, Georgia. Designed by Johnson/Burgee Architects and Kendall/Heaton Associates Inc, the building was completed in 1990 and is the fourth tallest in the city, winning the BOMA Building of the Year Awards the next year, repeating in 1998 and 2003.
Promenade is a 691 feet (211 m) tall skyscraper in Midtown Atlanta. It has 40 stories of office space and its construction was completed in 1990. It is currently the seventh-tallest skyscraper in Atlanta.
Tower Square is a 206.4 m (677 ft), 47-story skyscraper located in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia. Completed in 1982, it serves as the regional headquarters of BellSouth Telecommunications, which does business as AT&T Southeast, and was acquired as part of AT&T's acquisition of BellSouth. BellSouth Corporate headquarters was located in the Campanile building, also in Midtown. By 2020, AT&T had vacated its offices.
Midtown Atlanta, or Midtown, is a high-density commercial and residential neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. 1180 Peachtree, commonly known as the Symphony Tower, is a 41-story skyscraper located at 1180 Peachtree Street in the Midtown district of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Rising to a height of approximately 657 feet (200 m), the building includes office and retail space in its 624,996 sq ft (58,064 m2) of floor area as well as a 1,200 space parking deck. Construction was completed in 2006.
Peachtree Center is a district located in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Most of the structures that make up the district were designed by Atlanta architect John C. Portman Jr. A defining feature of the Peachtree Center is a network of enclosed pedestrian sky bridges suspended above the street-level, which have garnered criticism for discouraging pedestrian street life. The district is served by the Peachtree Center MARTA station, providing access to rapid transit.

3344 Peachtree is a 50-story high-rise building of 635 feet (194 m) height located in Atlanta's uptown business district of Buckhead on Peachtree Road, the northern extension of Peachtree Street. The building is a mixed-use tower that incorporates upscale dining, office space, and 82 condominia at 3344 Peachtree Road. Completed in the spring of 2008, it is the ninth tallest building in Atlanta and the tallest mixed-use building in Atlanta. It has also surpassed the Park Avenue Condominiums as the tallest building in Atlanta not to be located downtown or midtown. The building is owned by Cousins Properties of Atlanta, Georgia.
The Hyatt Regency Atlanta is a business hotel located on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Opened in 1967 as the Regency Hyatt House, John C. Portman Jr.'s revolutionary 22-story atrium design for the hotel has influenced hotel design enormously in the years since. The hotel instantly became one of the most recognized buildings in Atlanta.
The Alliance Center is a complex in Atlanta, Georgia. Its tallest building is the 478-foot, 40-floor Paramount at Buckhead. It also includes the 22-floor One Alliance Center, and the 30-floor Two Alliance Center.
1010 Midtown is a 35-story, 124 m (407 ft) skyscraper in Atlanta, Georgia with 425 condominiums atop 38,000 sq ft (3,500 m2) of retail and dining space. The structure is part of the 12th & Midtown development, situated on approximately 2 acres (0.81 ha) on the block between 11th and 12th streets in Midtown Atlanta, the front of which follows the curve of Peachtree Street. The 1010 Midtown building also features a park-in-the-sky, which will be one of the largest environmentally green rooftops in the city.
12th and Midtown is a four-block commercial real estate development project in Midtown Atlanta along Peachtree Street and Crescent Avenue between 11th and 13th Streets. The development currently contains three of the tallest buildings in Midtown, with more buildings planned in the coming years.

Henri Vatable Jova (1919-2014) was an American architect and preservationist. With Stanley Daniels and John Busby, he founded Jova/Daniels/Busby, a multidisciplinary design firm based in Atlanta, Georgia, which designed several notable projects in Atlanta and throughout the Southeast from 1966 to 2013. Jova is noted for his pioneering support of mixed-use development and interest in the development of Midtown Atlanta.
999 Peachtree is a high-rise class A office building in midtown Atlanta, Georgia. Built in 1987 by Heery Architects and Engineers, the building is situated on the Midtown Mile, at the intersection of Peachtree Street and Tenth Street.
Opus Place is an under construction development in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Located in Midtown Atlanta, the development is currently expected to consist of a large residential high-rise, called No. 2 Opus Place, and possibly a smaller tower. Upon its completion, No. 2 Opus Place would be among the tallest buildings in Atlanta and the tallest residential building in the city. The project was first developed in 2014, but underwent a significant alteration in 2016.
1105 West Peachtree is a mixed-use development in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Located along West Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta, the development would consist primarily of a 32-story office building and a smaller residential tower called 40 West 12th.
