The beach in Gangavaram is called Gangavaram Beach. It was named after the town which existed before the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant was constructed.

All of the Hindu festivals are celebrated in the village. The Maaghapournami is celebrated in February through March, the people from surrounding villages bathe in the sea. There is even a small fair on this day. The Paidithalamma Ammavaari Panduga festival is celebrated every other year in mid-June.
Gangavaram village still exists but Dibbapalem Village was removed from the area and all the families are shifted to two places. Most of the people working at Visakhapatnam Steel plant are shifter near Srinagar and the people who have their living from fishing are located near Peda Gantyada. During this, there was a lot of tension which went on for several months leading to strikes and police firing. While 1,270 families accepted the compensation package and agreed to vacate their houses, 350 owing allegiance to the Vedika refused to leave the village, demanding categorical assurance from the management of the private port to provide permanent jobs to at least one member of the project-affected family. The whole village was vacated and construction of the port began in December 2005, and commercial operations commenced in August 2008. The port was formally inaugurated in July 2009, by the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. The port is called Gangavaram Port which was named after the beach. Fishermen in the villages of Gangavaram and Dibbapalem, who were directly affected by the construction of the port, demanded construction of an alternative jetty and a relief and rehabilitation package. Dugarajapatnam Port is a proposed seaport in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Construction was expected to start in 2020 and finish in 2023. It will be controlled by the Union government, alongside Visakhapatnam Port in the state of Andhra Pradesh, and would cost nearly ₹8,000 crore (US$960 million). The port is set up under India's Companies Act 1956 with equity participation of the government of Andhra Pradesh.
Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Hudhud was a strong tropical cyclone that caused extensive damage and loss of life in eastern India and Nepal during October 2014. Hudhud originated from a low-pressure system that formed under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation in the Andaman Sea on October 6. Hudhud intensified into a cyclonic storm on October 8 and as a Severe Cyclonic Storm on October 9. Hudhud underwent rapid deepening in the following days and was classified as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm by the IMD. Shortly before landfall near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on October 12, Hudhud reached its peak strength with three-minute wind speeds of 185 km/h (115 mph) and a minimum central pressure of 960 mbar (28.35 inHg). The system then drifted northwards towards Uttar Pradesh and Nepal, causing widespread rains in both areas and heavy snowfall in the latter.

It is committed to the causes of nature conservation, environmental protection, research, education, and awareness. The society was founded on March 5, 2001, by Dr. Mantha Rama Murty and Dr. Mangathayi, who had previously launched several nature conservation programs in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Visakhapatnam. The organization's activities are intended to instill a love for nature and conservation among people, especially among the younger generation. Notable research, documentation, conservation, and awareness campaigns of the society have involved Olive-Ridley Sea Turtles, intertidal rocky shore fauna and flora of the Visakhapatnam coast, and butterflies of the Eastern Ghats. The society's flagship project is the development and maintenance of the Biodiversity Park in Visakhapatnam.
