Harlesden railway station was a station in northwest London on the south side of the southern section of a road called Craven Park, which is part of the A404 Harrow Road between Paddington and Wembley. The station was sometimes known as Harrow Road or as Stonebridge Park.

Originally named Harrow Road for Stonebridge Park and West Willesden, the station was renamed several times: on 1 February 1876 it became Harrow Road for Stonebridge Park and Harlesden; on 1 May 1878 Harrow Road; on 1 October 1879 Harrow Road for Stonebridge and Harlesden; on 1 November 1880 Harrow Road for Stonebridge Park and Harlesden;^[1] and on 1 July 1884 Stonebridge Park for West Willesden and Harlesden.^[2] The station was closed on 2 July 1888.^[3]

It was reopened on 1 March 1893,^[3] and on 1 February 1901 it was renamed again, becoming Harlesden for West Willesden and Stonebridge Park.^[2] It was finally closed to passengers for a second time on 1 October 1902,^[1] after a sustained campaign by local people. The neighbouring goods sidings were in use for coal deliveries until the 1960s. The street level station buildings were demolished in the 1960s.^[4] The former goods office still stood in 2010, although the interior and much of the roof was destroyed in a fire in December 2009. Some platform edges remain, although most were removed when the railway embankment was pinned to stop slippage in 2001.

The Dudding Hill Line remains in use for freight services today. The station stood on the later 1855 straightening of this road, which meant the railway had to be built under two roads of the same name.

It should not be confused with Harlesden station, an existing Network Rail station, some three or four hundred metres south, served by Bakerloo line and London Overground trains.

Re-opening proposals

Harlesden station features in the North and West London Light Railway proposal which has been promoted by the Campaign for Better Transport. A new light rail station is suggested for the other side of the road, between the two Craven Park road bridges.^[5]

R25 Proposals

In 2014 plans by Boris Johnson for an orbital railway around London were released with a stop at Harlesden using the old Dudding Hill Line to link up with Cricklewood and would stop at Harlesden.^[6]

The southern end of Willesden Brent Sidings separates the station from the West Coast Main Line.

Acton Central railway station is on the North London line, between South Acton and Willesden Junction, in Travelcard Zone 3. It is also where trains change power supply from overhead line equipment to third rail, or vice versa, depending on direction of travel .

Hatch End is a railway station in the London Borough of Harrow, in north London, and in Travelcard Zone 6. London Underground's Bakerloo line trains served the station from 16 April 1917 until 24 September 1982. Park Royal is an area in North West London, England, partly in the London Borough of Brent and partly the London Borough of Ealing.

Stonebridge is a locality in the London Borough of Brent that forms the western part of Harlesden in Northwest London, England. The A404 runs through the district known locally as Brentfield and Hillside, while to the south are railway tracks and to the west is the North Circular Road along with Stonebridge Park station. The area is known for the previously troubled 1960s Stonebridge housing estate, which was completely redeveloped in the 2000s.

The Dudding Hill Line is a railway line in west and north-west London running from Acton to Cricklewood. It is roughly 4 miles (6.4 km) long, with a 30 miles per hour (48 km/h) speed limit, and semaphore signalling. The line has no scheduled passenger service, no stations, and is not electrified. It is lightly used by freight trains and, very occasionally, passenger charter trains.

Dudding Hill railway station was a station in Neasden, London NW2 on the Dudding Hill Line.

The North and West London Light Railway (NWLLR), formerly known as the Brent Cross Railway, was a proposal for a light rail system in North and West London in the UK. It was put forward by the London group of the Campaign for Better Transport and by the Coalition for a Sustainable Brent Cross Cricklewood.

Gladstone Park is situated in the Dollis Hill area of north-west London. It is about 35 hectares in area.

The West London Orbital is a proposed extension to the London Overground railway system in London, UK. The extension would make use of a combination of existing freight and passenger lines including the Dudding Hill Line, North London Line and Hounslow Loop. The route would run for approximately 11 miles (17 km) from West Hampstead and Hendon at the northern end to Hounslow at the western end via Brent Cross West, Neasden, Harlesden, Old Oak Common, South Acton and Brentford.

Kew railway station was opened by the North and South Western Junction Railway in 1853 in Brentford in west London on the western curve of the Kew triangle. It closed in 1862 after the railway had in 1862 opened its Kew Bridge platforms on the eastern curve and which were connected to the LSWR Kew Bridge station, itself on the southern chord.

Church End, commonly known locally as "Church Road", is a small locality in the London Borough of Brent and a sub-district of Willesden. The population is predominantly Afro-Caribbean.
