This is a list of seasons completed by the South Carolina Gamecocks football team of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Since the team's creation in 1892, the Gamecocks have participated in 1,309 officially sanctioned games, including 25 bowl games. [1] [2]

Contents

The Gamecocks have been a member of several athletic conferences. From 1892 to 1932, South Carolina competed as a football independent. From 1933 through 1952, the Gamecocks were part of the Southern Conference. In 1953, South Carolina became one of the original members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, where it remained through 1970. The Gamecocks competed as an independent again from 1971 to 1991. In 1992, South Carolina joined the Southeastern Conference's East Division, where it won a division title in 2010.

  1. 1 2 3 The Gamecocks finished the season with an overall record of 5–5 with a mark of 4–2 in conference play, sharing the ACC title with Duke. In July 1966, the ACC ruled that South Carolina had used two ineligible players during the 1965 season and required the Gamecocks to forfeit their four conference victories and share of the conference title. Clemson and NC State, who both lost to South Carolina, had finished tied for third in the ACC with 4–3 records. After the forfeits from South Carolina, Clemson and NC State improved to 5–2 in conference play and were declared ACC co-champions. Duke dropped to third place. NCAA and South Carolina records still reflect the Gamecocks' original win–loss marks prior to the forfeits.
  2. 1 2 3 On October 13, 2015, Steve Spurrier officially announced his resignation as head football coach, and co-offensive coordinator Shawn Elliott was named interim head coach for the remaining games of the season.

The 2012 Clemson Tigers football team represented Clemson University in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Tigers were led by head coach Dabo Swinney in his fourth full year and fifth overall since taking over midway through 2008 season. They played their home games at Memorial Stadium, also known as "Death Valley". They were members of the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. On November 10, Clemson set a school record with their 12th straight home win at Death Valley. They finished the season 11–2, 7–1 in ACC play to be Atlantic Division co–champions with Florida State. Due to their loss to Florida State, they did not represent the division the ACC Championship Game. They were invited to the Chick-fil-A Bowl where they defeated LSU. Monte Wesley Lee is an American baseball coach, who is the associate head coach/hitting coach for the South Carolina Gamecocks. He played college baseball for the Charleston Cougars from 1996 to 1999. He then served as the head coach of the College of Charleston Cougars (2009–2015). Under Lee, the Cougars reached four NCAA tournaments, including one NCAA Super Regional. As the head coach of the Clemson Tigers (2016–2022), his teams made four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and was nationally ranked in the top 25 in total wins (2016-2022). In addition, the Tigers won the ACC Conference Championship (2016) and regular season title (2018).

The 1965 NC State Wolfpack football team represented North Carolina State University during the 1965 NCAA University Division football season. The Wolfpack were led by 12th-year head coach Earle Edwards and played their home games at Riddick Stadium for the last time before moving to Carter Stadium. They competed as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Originally finished tied for third in the conference, forfeits by South Carolina due to an ineligible player moved NC State into a tie for first and a shared conference title with Clemson.

The 2017 South Carolina Gamecocks football team represented the University of South Carolina in the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Gamecocks played their home games at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina and competed in the East Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They were led by second-year head coach Will Muschamp. They finished the season 9–4, 5–3 in SEC play to finish in second place in the East Division. They were invited to the Outback Bowl, where they defeated Michigan.

The 2021 NC State Wolfpack football team represented North Carolina State University during the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Wolfpack played their home games at Carter–Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina and competed in the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They were led by ninth-year head coach Dave Doeren.

The 2021 Duke's Mayo Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 30, 2021, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 20th edition of the Duke's Mayo Bowl, and the second under its current name, the contest featured the North Carolina Tar Heels of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the South Carolina Gamecocks of the Southeastern Conference. The game began at 11:30 a.m. EST and was televised on ESPN. It was one of the 2021–22 bowl games concluding the 2021 FBS football season. Duke's Mayonnaise served as the game's title sponsor.
