The Pratapgarh district is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state of India, and Pratapgarh city is the district headquarters. Pratapgarh district is a part of Allahabad division. The total area of Pratapgarh district is 3730 Sq. Km.
Dharm samrat swami Hariharanand Saraswati (1907–1980) popularly known as Swami Karpatri, was born as Hari Narayan Ojha into a Saryupareen Brahmin family of a village called Bhatni in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was a sannyasi in the Hindu Dashanami monastic tradition.

Munishwar Dutt Upadhyay was an Indian politician, statesman, and leader in the Indian independence movement. He was a Member of Parliament from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, belonging to the Indian National Congress.
