A professional competitor since 1997, he has competed for the UFC, Strikeforce, DREAM, PRIDE, M-1 Global, Impact FC, World Victory Road, and Cage Warriors. In submission wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Monson is a two-time ADCC World Champion and a no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion.

Blagoy Ivanov is a Bulgarian mixed martial artist and Sambo practitioner who competes in the Heavyweight division. Having previously competed for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), he was also the 2008 Combat Sambo World Champion and the former World Series of Fighting Heavyweight champion.

Anatoly Arkadyevich Kharlampiyev, was a Russian researcher of various kinds of national wrestling and martial arts, Merited Master of Sports of the USSR, and Honored Coach of Sports of the USSR. He was one of the founders of Sambo, a martial art technique developed in the Soviet Union. Kharlampiyev worked as a physical education trainer at the Communist University of the Toilers of the East, and also was a student of boxing, fencing, acrobatics, and mountaineering. In 1938, Kharlampiyev presented Sambo to the USSR All-Union Sports Committee, which recognized the martial art as an official sport.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Fedor Emelianenko</span> Russian mixed martial artist (born 1976)

Fedor Vladimirovich Emelianenko is a Russian former professional mixed martial artist (MMA), sambist, and judoka and politician. Emelianenko was the PRIDE Heavyweight Champion from 2003 to the organisation's closure in 2007, a four-time combat sambo world champion, a seven-time combat sambo national champion, and two-time Russian national judo bronze medalist, among other championships and accolades. He also competed in RINGS, Strikeforce, M-1 Global, Rizin, and Bellator MMA, and is regarded as the most prominent fighter never to compete in the UFC. Emelianenko is widely considered to be one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, consistently ranked as the top heavyweight fighter from 2003 until 2010, and the best fighter of the 2000s. Emelianenko's career helped popularize the sport of MMA in his home country of Russia after gaining attention in Japan, South Korea, the United States, and worldwide.

Viktor Aleksandrovich Nemkov is a Russian sambist, judoka competitor and mixed martial artist. Nemkov won the 2011 World Sambo Championships in Combat Sambo. He is the older brother of Vadim Nemkov.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Vyacheslav Vasilevsky</span> Russian mixed martial arts fighter

Vyacheslav Vasilevsky is a Russian professional mixed martial artist and sambo competitor. He has competed in professional MMA since 2008. He was the inaugural M-1 Global Light Heavyweight World Champion and also fought for Bellator MMA and Absolute Championship Akhmat. Vasilevsky is a multi-time world champion and Master of Sport in combat sambo.

Vener Zaynullovich Galiev born 1 July 1975) is a Russian amateur wrestler, sambist and mixed martial artist. He started his professional mixed martial arts career in 2004.

David Rudman was a Russian-American wrestler, Sambo world champion, and judo European champion.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Vasili Oshchepkov</span> Russian martial artist (1893–1938)

Vasili Sergeyevich Oshchepkov was a Russian and Soviet researcher of different types of national wrestling and martial arts. He was ranked as a Merited Master of Sports of the USSR and an Honored Coach of the USSR. He was one of the founders of Sambo, a martial art developed in the Soviet Union. During the Great Purge, Oshchepkov was arrested in 1937 and accused of being a Japanese spy; he was executed in prison as a result.

Kūdō is a Japanese hybrid martial art. It is a full-contact combat sport that aims to achieve safety, aggression, & practicality, a style of mixed martial arts practised with headgear and gloves. It features stand-up striking, with throwing and grappling techniques being also allowed in the competition, including restraint, locks and chokeholds.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov</span> Soviet-Russian wrestling coach (1962–2020)

Abdulmanap Magomedovich Nurmagomedov was a Russian military veteran, former judoka and combat sports coach. In September 2019, he was named by the Russian Book of Records as the most successful combat sambo coach in the country. He was the head coach of Eagles MMA and had coached two UFC champions, his son Khabib Nurmagomedov as well as Islam Makhachev.

Mixed martial arts in Russia are one of the most practiced sports.
