At most sections, the Federal Route 7 was built under the JKR R5 road standard, allowing maximum speed limit of up to 90 km/h (56 mph).

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) or Malayan Railways Limited, colloquially referred to simply as KTM, is the main rail operator in Peninsular Malaysia. Padang Besar is a border town located in the northern part of the state of Perlis in Malaysia as well northmost town in Malaysia. It is situated on the border with Songkhla province, Thailand, 35 kilometers northeast of Kangar and about 57 km southwest of Hat Yai. The town opposite Padang Besar in Thailand is also known as Padang Besar, although the locals here usually refer to the town as "Pekan Siam" or Siamese town. The town is a "shopping heaven" and popular destination for Malaysians because of the duty-free shopping complex in between the border checkpoints of the two countries. The town attracts several thousand visitors from Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand every weekend and during public holidays.

The Federal Route 1 was the backbone of the road system in the western states of Peninsular Malaysia before being supplanted by the North–South Expressway.

Wang Kelian is a village in Perlis, Malaysia located on the Malaysia-Thailand border. The village was popular with tourists as it was the location of a border market, which straddles both sides of the border. However, it has lost it popularity following the discovery of mass graves of the victims of human trafficking in the area in 2015, for which it is now known for. It is also the location of a minor border crossing into Thailand.

Changlun–Kuala Perlis Highway, Federal Route 194, is a highway in Malaysia which links the state of Perlis with the main expressway of Peninsular Malaysia, the North–South Expressway. Most of the route of this highway used to be Kedah State Route K6 and Perlis State Route R6, while the Federal Route 81 is a short road from Route 7 to Kuala Perlis. Those roads were upgraded to a four-lane highway to provide better accessibility from the North–South Expressway.

Azmi bin Khalid is a former member of the Parliament of Malaysia. He represented the constituency of Padang Besar in Perlis. He was also a minister in the federal Cabinet from 1999 to 2008, as a member of the United Malay National Organisation (UMNO) in the then-ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.

He is also presently one of the only two BERSATU Perlis EXCO Members along with Megat Hashirat Hassan.
