Patresh Rock (Bulgarian : скала Патреш, ‘Skala Patresh’ \ska-'la 'pa-tresh\) is the rock in Clothier Harbour on the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands extending 270 m in southeast-northwest direction and 40 m wide. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Clothier Harbour bay

Clothier Harbour is the 1.5 km wide bay indenting for 1 km the north coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica between Hammer Point on the northeast and Onogur Islands on the southwest. The harbour was used as a safe base by American sealing ships in 1820-21.

South Shetland Islands A group of islands north of the Antarctic Peninsula

The South Shetland Islands are a group of Antarctic islands with a total area of 3,687 square kilometres (1,424 sq mi). They lie about 120 kilometres (75 mi) north of the Antarctic Peninsula, and between 430 kilometres (270 mi) to 900 kilometres (560 mi) south-west from the nearest point of the South Orkney Islands. By the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, the islands' sovereignty is neither recognized nor disputed by the signatories and they are free for use by any signatory for non-military purposes.

The rock is named after the settlement of Patresh in Northern Bulgaria.

Location

Patresh Rock is located at 62°20′41″S59°39′39″W / 62.34472°S 59.66083°W / -62.34472; -59.66083 , which is 530 m southwest of Hammer Point and 780 m northeast of Shipot Point. British mapping in 1968 and Bulgarian mapping in 2009.

Hammer Point

Hammer Point is a rocky point projecting from the north coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica 1 km north-northwestwards into Drake Passage, and forming the southwest side of the entrance to Nevestino Cove and the northeast side of the entrance to Clothier Harbour. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers operating from Clothier Harbour.

Shipot Point

Shipot Point is the ice-free point on the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands projecting 630 m northwards, and together with Osenovlag Island and Svetulka Island forming the southwest side of Clothier Harbour. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

It is bounded by Oborishte Ridge to the northwest, Nevlya Peak to the north, Terter Peak and Razgrad Peak to the northeast, and Ephraim Bluff to the southeast. The glacier extends 3 km in northwest-southeast direction and 2 km in northeast-southwest direction, draining southwestwards into McFarlane Strait between Ephraim Bluff and the base of Provadiya Hook.

Pordim Islands

Pordim Islands are two adjacent islands situated 870 m (950 yd) east-northeast of Heywood Island and 2.1 km (1.3 mi) northwest of Catharina Point on Robert Island, South Shetland Islands. Extending 960 m (1,050 yd) in east-southeast to west-northwest direction. The larger islet has a surface area of 10 hectares. Bulgarian early early mapping in 2009. Named after the town of Pordim in northern Bulgaria.

Pasarel Island

Pasarel Island is an ice-free island in the Aitcho group on the west side of English Strait in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The island is situated 900 m (980 yd) northwest of Barrientos Island, 1.35 km (0.84 mi) northeast of Sierra Island and 650 m (710 yd) southeast of Emeline Island. Extending 450 by 260 m. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Onogur Islands

Onogur Islands is the group of nine islands and some islets and rocks adjacent to the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The group is situated between Carlota Cove to the southwest and Clothier Harbour to the northeast, and 700 m (770 yd) southeast of Cornwall Island. Kovach Island and Grod Island, the largest two in the group, have a surface area of 11 hectares and 10 hectares respectively. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers based in Clothier Harbour.

Telish Rock

Telish Rock is the islet off the south coast of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica situated 400 m (437 yd) south of Elephant Point and 3 km (1.86 mi) northwest by west of Enchantress Rocks. Extending 300 by 180 m. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Zavala Island

Zavala Island is an ice-free island in the Dunbar group off the northwest coast of Varna Peninsula on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It is extending 700 by 250 m, with surface area 14 hectares. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Barrientos Island

Barrientos Island is an ice-free island in the Aitcho group on the west side of English Strait in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Extending 1.71 by 0.54 km, surface area 65 hectares. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers. Barrientos Island is a popular tourist site frequented by Antarctic cruise ships.

Morris Rock

Morris Rock is rising to 55 m (180 ft) in the northwest extremity of Aitcho group, English Strait in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Stoker Island

Stoker Island is a rocky island lying off the north coast of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Extending 550 by 400 m, surface area 20 hectares. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Vodoley Rock

Vodoley Rock is the rock extending 220 m in northwest-southeast direction and 110 m wide in Barclay Bay on the west side of Ioannes Paulus II Peninsula on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers operating on nearby Byers Peninsula and Cape Shirreff.

The feature comprises two parts connected by a spit, and is separated from Redina Island, Kovach Island and Leeve Island by passages 120 m, 160 m and 130 m wide respectively.

Churicheni Island

Churicheni Island is the ice-free island in the Onogur group off the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica extending 230 m by 140 m. It is separated from Robert Island by a 100 m wide passage.

Osenovlag Island

Osenovlag Island is the easternmost island in the Onogur group off the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The feature is rocky, extending 510 m in southeast-northwest direction and 130 m wide. It is separated from Shipot Point by a 90 m wide passage. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Svetulka Island

Svetulka Island is the northernmost island in the Onogur group off the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The feature is rocky, extending 150 m by 90 m, and separated from Osenovlag Island by a 20 m wide passage. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Nikudin Rock

Nikudin Rock is the high, round rock of diameter 180 m and split in northeast-southwest direction, lying off the north coast of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Klimash Passage

Klimash Passage is the 1.9 km wide passage in the South Shetland Islands between Table Island and Bowler Rocks on the northwest and Morris Rock and Chaos Reef, Aitcho Islands to the SE. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.
