The Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is the name of the unified armed forces of Uzbekistan, consisting of the Ground Force and the Air and Air Defence forces under the defence ministry. Paramilitary units include the National Guard, a Frontier Service and a River Force. It is reported to be the largest and the strongest in Central Asia.
Karakalpakstan, officially the Republic of Karakalpakstan, is an autonomous republic of Uzbekistan. It spans the northwestern portion of Uzbekistan. Its capital is Nukus. Karakalpakstan has an area of 166,590 km2 (64,320 sq mi), and has a population of about 2 million people. Its territory covers the classical land of Khwarazm, which in classical Persian literature was known as Kāt (کات).

Nukus is the sixth-largest city in Uzbekistan and the capital of the autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan. The population of Nukus as of 1 January 2022 was 329,100. The Amu Darya river passes west of the city. Administratively, Nukus is a district-level city, that includes the urban-type settlement Karatau.
Sirdaryo Region is one of the regions of Uzbekistan, located in the center of the country on the left bank of Syr Darya River. It borders with Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Tashkent Region, and Jizzakh Region. It covers an area of 4,276 square kilometres (1,651 sq mi), and is mostly desert, with the Starving Steppe taking up a significant part of the region's area. The population is estimated to be 860,900 (2021).
Bukhara Region is a region of Uzbekistan located in the southwest of the country. The Kyzyl Kum desert takes up a large portion of its territory. It borders Turkmenistan, Navoiy Region, Qashqadaryo Region, a small part of the Xorazm Region, and the Karakalpakstan Republic. It covers an area of 40,216 km2. The population is estimated at 1,976,823 (2022), with 63% living in rural areas.
Navoiy Region is one of the regions of Uzbekistan. It is located in the central north/northwest of the country. It covers an area of 111,095 km2 (42,894 sq mi), which makes it the largest of the regions of Uzbekistan. The Navoiy region borders with Kazakhstan, Samarqand Region, Buxoro Region, Jizzakh Region, and the Karakalpakstan Republic. The population is estimated 1,033,857 (2022), with 51% living in rural areas. The capital is Navoiy. The region and its capital are named after the poet Ali-Shir Nava'i.
Khorazm Region, also known as the Khorezm or Xorazm Region, is a viloyat (region) of Uzbekistan located in the northwest of the country in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya River. It borders with Turkmenistan, Karakalpakstan, and the Bukhara Region. It covers an area of 6,050 square kilometres (2,340 sq mi). The population is estimated at 1,959,300 (2023), with 67% living in rural areas. The capital is Urgench. Other major towns include Xonqa, Khiva, Shovot, and Pitnak.
Nurafshon is a district-level city and the administrative centre of Tashkent Region in Uzbekistan. It is also the seat of the Oʻrtachirchiq District, but not part of it. It has an area of 30 km2 (12 sq mi) and the population of the city is 51,400 (2021).
Shimbay district is a district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The capital lies at the city Shimbay. In 2019, part of its territory was given to the re-established Bozataw district. Its area is 1,440 km2 (560 sq mi) and it had 114,000 inhabitants in 2022.
Kegeyli district is a district of Karakalpakstan in Uzbekistan. The capital lies at the town Kegeyli. Its area is 920 km2 (360 sq mi) and it had 73,600 inhabitants in 2022.
Xojeli district is a district in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The capital lies in the city Xojeli. In 2017, a part of its territory was given for the creation of the new Taqiyatas district. Its area is 550 km2 (210 sq mi) and it had 125,500 inhabitants in 2022.

Its area is 44.20 km2 (17.07 sq mi), and its population is 132,800 (2021).
Bozataw district is a district of Karakalpakstan in Uzbekistan. The seat lies at the urban-type settlement Bozataw. It was created in September 2019 from parts of the Kegeyli district and the Shimbay district. Its area is 2,040 km2 (790 sq mi) and it had 21,800 inhabitants in 2022.
Taqiyatas district is a district of Karakalpakstan in Uzbekistan. Its seat is the city of Taqiyatas. It was created in 2017 from part of Xojeli district. Its area is 180 km2 (69 sq mi) and it had 75,500 inhabitants in 2022. The district contains one city Taqiyatas, one town, Naymanko'l, and three village councils Keneges, Naymanko'l, and Sarayko'l.
