United Nations Security Council resolution 1267 was adopted unanimously on 15 October 1999. After recalling resolutions 1189 (1998), 1193 (1998) and 1214 (1998) on the situation in Afghanistan, the Council designated Osama bin Laden and associates as terrorists and established a sanctions regime to cover individuals and entities associated with Al-Qaida, Osama bin Laden and/or the Taliban wherever located.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1691, regarding the accession of Montenegro to the United Nations, was adopted without a vote on 22 June 2006. In the resolution, after examining the country's application for membership, the Council recommended to the General Assembly that it be admitted.
United Nations Security Council resolution 1626, adopted unanimously on 19 September 2005, after recalling all previous resolutions on the situations in Liberia and Sierra Leone, particularly resolutions 1509 (2003), 1610 (2005) and 1620 (2005), the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) until 31 March 2006 and authorised the deployment of 250 troops to Sierra Leone to protect the Special Court.
United Nations Security Council resolution 1641, adopted unanimously on 30 November 2005, after recalling Resolution 1545 (2004) regarding the situation in Burundi, the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Operation in Burundi until 15 January 2006.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1648, adopted unanimously on 21 December 2005, after considering a report by the Secretary-General Kofi Annan regarding the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), the Council extended its mandate for a further six months until 30 June 2006.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1651, adopted unanimously on 21 December 2005, after recalling previous resolutions on the situation in Sudan, particularly resolutions 1556 (2004) and 1591 (2005), the Council extended the mandate of an expert panel monitoring sanctions against and violations of human rights in the Darfur region until 29 March 2006. It was the last Security Council resolution adopted in 2005.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1652, adopted unanimously on January 24, 2006, after recalling previous resolutions on the situation in Côte d'Ivoire, the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and supporting French forces until December 15, 2006. It was the first of 86 Security Council resolutions adopted in 2006, and the first of eight relating to the situation in Côte d'Ivoire.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1654, adopted unanimously on January 31, 2006, after recalling previous resolutions concerning the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including resolutions 1616 (2005) and 1649 (2005), the Council extended the mandate of an expert panel monitoring the arms embargo against the country until July 31, 2006.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1657, adopted unanimously on February 6, 2006, after recalling previous resolutions on the situation in Côte d'Ivoire, including resolutions 1609 (2005), 1626 (2005) and 1652 (2005), the Council authorised a temporary redeployment of troops from the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) to the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI).
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1659, adopted unanimously on February 15, 2006, after recalling previous resolutions on the situation in Afghanistan, particularly resolutions 1378 (2001), 1383 (2001) and 1589 (2005), the Council endorsed the "Afghanistan Compact" between the Afghan government and international community concerning the future of the country.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1661, adopted unanimously on March 14, 2006, after reaffirming all resolutions on the situation between Eritrea and Ethiopia, particularly resolutions 1622 (2005) and 1640 (2005), the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) for a period of one month until April 15, 2006.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1665, adopted unanimously on March 29, 2006, after recalling previous resolutions on the situation in Sudan, particularly resolutions 1556 (2004), 1591 (2005) and 1651 (2005), extended the mandate of an expert panel monitoring sanctions against and violations of human rights in the Darfur region until September 29, 2006.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1677, adopted unanimously on May 12, 2006, after reaffirming previous resolutions on East Timor (Timor-Leste), particularly Resolution 1599 (2005), the Council renewed the mandate of the United Nations Office in Timor-Leste (UNOTIL) until June 20, 2006.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1678, adopted unanimously on May 15, 2006, after reaffirming all resolutions on the situation between Eritrea and Ethiopia, particularly resolutions 1640 (2005), 1661 (2006) and 1670 (2006), the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) until the end of May 2006.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1682, adopted unanimously on June 2, 2006, after recalling previous resolutions on the situation in Côte d'Ivoire and the subregion, including resolutions 1652 (2005) and 1667 (2005), the Council authorised an increase in the strength of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI).
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1692, adopted unanimously on June 30, 2006, after recalling resolutions on the situation in Burundi and the African Great Lakes region, particularly resolutions 1650 (2005) and 1669 (2006), the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Operation in Burundi (ONUB) until December 31, 2006.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1693, adopted unanimously on June 30, 2006, after recalling all previous resolutions concerning the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including resolutions 1565 (2004), 1592 (2005), 1596 (2005), 1621 (2005), 1628 (2005), 1635 (2005) and 1671 (2006), the Council extended the temporary increase in the size of the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) until September 30, 2006.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1698, adopted unanimously on July 31, 2006, after recalling all previous resolutions concerning the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including resolutions 1493 (2003), 1533 (2004), 1552 (2004), 1565 (2004), 1592 (2005), 1596 (2005), 1616 (2005), 1649 (2005) and 1654 (2006), the Council renewed sanctions against the country until July 31, 2007.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1699, adopted unanimously on August 8, 2006, after recalling Resolution 1617 (2005) on co-operation between Interpol and the Committee established in Resolution 1267 (1999), the Council requested the Secretary-General to take steps to increase co-operation between the United Nations and Interpol.
