WBC Muaythai is a non-profit organization that regulates, sanctions, and supervises professional Muay Thai championships, worldwide. The organization also adheres to the standard rules and regulations for all Muay Thai competitions as approved by the Board of Boxing Sport (Office of Professional Sports) Sports Authority of Thailand. [ citation needed ] The WBC MuayThai is active in over seventy-five countries and territories around the world promoting the sport, culture, and rich heritage of MuayThai. [ citation needed ] WBC Muaythai has its own constitution, rules, and regulations, aiming to promote the sport and foster Muay Thai championships in all weight divisions. [1]

Rules

Equipment

The fighters use gloves certified by WBC Muaythai or the local commissioner. Fighters between minimum weight and welterweight use 8 oz gloves, while fighters in weight classes above super welterweight use 10 oz gloves. The gloves are tied with knots, taped, and inspected by a supervisor before the fight. [ citation needed ]

The fighters wear shorts without shirts or shoes, while female fighters must also wear a top. They must additionally wear a protective cup, a gumshield and are allowed to wear ankle supports. Long hair must be tied, while long beards are allowed if they are religiously significant. Fingernails and toenails must be neatly trimmed. Sacred headbands are to be taken off before the fight itself. [ citation needed ]

Round duration

Male fighters contest five rounds of three minutes each, while female fighters contest five rounds of two minutes each. The rest period in between each round is two minutes in length. [ citation needed ]

Scoring procedure

Rounds are scored on a 10 points must system. If there is no clear round winner, both fighters earn ten points. If the fighter has won a round he earns a 10-9 point advantage, if he has clearly won the round he earns a 10-8 point advantage, if he managed to knock his opponent down once he earns a 10-7 point advantage, and if he knocked his opponent down twice a 10-6 point advantage. Should a fighter be cautioned for a rule infraction, he may not earn the full ten points. [ citation needed ]

Fighters win the round if they successfully land strikes with their fists, elbows, knees, shins or feet. The fighter will win the round if he has shown more strike volume, more accurate and powerful strikes, aggression and if he has done more damage to his opponent than he has received. [ citation needed ]

The fighter may also win the fight by knockout if he has rendered his opponent unable to continue through a successful strike, or through a technical knockout if his opponent has been counted down three times in a single round, or five times throughout the entire fight. [ citation needed ]

Rule violation

The following acts are considered to rule infractions: biting, spitting, eye-gouging, strikes to the groin, headbutting, sticking out one's tongue at the opponent, judo or wrestling takedowns, continuing to attack a downed opponent, grabbing the ropes, catching the opponents leg and advancing more than two steps without attacking, using illegal substances. Hall of fame

On January 31, 2020 WBC Muaythai opened its hall of fame, in which they inducted fighters who achieved great distinction with the organization or in muay thai. [2]

Kickboxing Stand-up combat sports

Kickboxing is a group of stand-up combat sports and a form of boxing based on kicking and punching. The combat takes place in a boxing ring, normally with boxing gloves, mouthguards, shorts, and bare feet to favor the use of kicks. Kickboxing is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or for competition. Some styles of kickboxing include: Japanese kickboxing, Savate, Sanda and Muay Thai.

Muay Thai Combat sport of Thailand (lit. "Thai boxing")

Muay Thai , sometimes referred to as Thai boxing, is a combat sport that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This discipline is known as the "art of eight limbs", as it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins. Muay Thai became widespread internationally in the late 20th to 21st century, when Westernised practitioners from Thailand began competing in kickboxing and mixed-rules matches as well as matches under muay Thai rules around the world. The professional league is governed by The Professional Boxing Association of Thailand (P.A.T), sanctioned by The Sports Authority of Thailand (S.A.T.).

Kaoklai Kaennorsing Thai kickboxer

Kaoklai Kaennorsing is a former Thai light heavyweight Muay Thai fighter. Kaennorsing is the K-1 World Grand Prix 2004 in Seoul tournament winner, former two-division Rajadamnern Stadium champion, and former WBC Muay Thai Light Heavyweight Champion.

Lumpinee Boxing Stadium

Lumpinee Boxing Stadium is a sporting arena in Bangkok, Thailand. The stadium is named after Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha. Opened more than a decade later than Rajadamnern Stadium, Lumpinee is run by the Royal Thai Army. It has become the symbol of modern Muay Thai. Only Rajadamnern Stadium rivals the prestige of holding the title of "Muay Thai Champion of Lumpinee". The ranking system and championship titles are held from mini flyweight (105 lb) up to super welterweight (154 lb).

Pamorn Martdee

Pamorn Martdee also known as Pamorn Luuk Hill-Martdee is a former Thai of Australian descent muay Thai kickboxer, promoter of Origins Fight Promotions and the founder and director of Champions Gym in Perth. He is also the chairman of WBC Muaythai in Australia. Martdee was born in Subiaco, Western Australia. He was the WPMF welterweight Australian champion at age 17 and was ranked the number one contender in Australia to win the WBC Muay Thai national title in 2007.

Kem Sitsongpeenong, formerly known as Khem Fairtex, is a Thai Muay Thai kickboxer and the reigning Thailand and WMC Muaythai super welterweight world champion.

Saiyok Pumpanmuang, formerly known as Saiyoknoi Sakchainarong, is a Thai welterweight kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter.

Fabio Pinca is an Italian-French Muay Thai kickboxer and mixed martial artist. Pinca is currently signed to ONE Championship. In 2010, Pinca became the first winner of the annual Thai Fight tournament.

Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong Thai Muay Thai kickboxer (born 1991)

Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong is a Thai Muay Thai kickboxer who is currently signed to ONE Championship. Sitthichai is a former Lumpinee Stadium Welterweight Champion and Glory Lightweight Champion. Combat Press ranks him as the #3 lightweight kickboxer in the world.

Kevin Ross (kickboxer) American Muay Thai fighter

Kevin "The Soul Assassin" Ross is an American retired Muay Thai fighter and former mixed martial artist. He is also a former Bellator Kickboxing Featherweight champion. Among Kevin’s achievements so far are the Super light weight WBC International championship Title, the Welterweight WBC USA National championship Title, the FIDAM Welterweight championship of Mexico and the United States Muay Thai Federation Welterweight champion. He currently trains at Combat Sports Academy in Dublin, California.

Liam Harrison (kickboxer) English Thai Fighter

Liam "The Hitman" Harrison is an English welterweight Muay Thai fighter currently fighting out of Bad Company and trains at Jitti Gym and Yokkao Training Center in Bangkok.

Yodwicha Porboonsit, also known as Yodwicha Por Boonsit, is a Thai Muay Thai kickboxer, originally from Nakhon Ratchasima, but now fighting out of Bangkok, Thailand. He is a former 130 lbs. champion of Lumpinee Stadium and 135 lbs. champion of Thailand. He is the reigning WBC Muaythai Super Welterweight champion.

Thongchai Sitsongpeenong is a Thai Muay Thai kickboxer. As of June 2016, he is ranked #9 at Rajadamnern Stadium at 160 lbs and #10 by World Boxing Council Muaythai at 160 lbs. Thongchai has also previously competed for Glory from 2016 to 2018, where he most notably participated in the 2018 Glory Welterweight Contender Tournament.

Manachai

Jirapart Waiprakorn, known as Manachai, is a Muay Thai fighter and Former WMO Welterweight World Champion from Thailand. He was originally from Buriram, in the north-eastern Isaan region of Thailand, now fighting out of YOKKAOSaenchaiGym in Bangkok.

Youssef Boughanem is a Moroccan-Belgian Kun Khmer/Muay Thai and kickboxer, who has held WKN super welterweight Muay Thai title. He is also a former Lumpinee Stadium, Rajadamnern Stadium and WBC Muay Thai World Middleweight Champion. Boughanem currently trains out of the Petchsaman Gym in Thailand.

Darren Rolland is a French Muay Thai fighter who has been competing professionally since 2017. He is the current WBC Muaythai World Featherweight and former WBC Muaythai International Featherweight champion.

Thai Fight Thai boxing event

Thai Fight is a Muay Thai promotion based in Bangkok, Thailand, which hosts events worldwide and all across Thailand. Thai Fight events are produced in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The inaugural tournament took place on August 29, 2010, and the promotion has since featured notable fighters such as Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee, Saiyok Pumpanmuang, Yodsanklai Fairtex, Buakaw Banchamek and Saenchai.

Sean Clancy is an Irish Muay thai kickboxer and the reigning WBC Muaythai Super Lightweight World Champion.

Liam Nolan is a British Muay Thai fighter who competes for the ONE Championship organization. He is the reigning WBC Muay Thai World Middleweight Champion.
