The 2005 Saint Louis mayoral election was held on April 5, 2005 [1] to elect the mayor of St. Louis, Missouri. It saw the reelection of incumbent mayor Francis Slay to a second term.
The election was preceded by party primaries on March 8. [2]
Incumbent mayor Francis Slay was challenged for renomination by alderman Irene J. Smith as well as by Bill Haas.

The mayor of St. Louis is the chief executive officer of St. Louis's city government. The mayor has a duty to enforce city ordinances and the power to either approve or veto city ordinances passed by the Board of Aldermen. The current mayor is Tishaura Jones, who took office on April 20, 2021.

Tom Bauer is an American lawyer and politician from St. Louis, Missouri, who served in the Missouri House of Representatives and on the St. Louis Board of Aldermen. In 2005 he was recalled from his position as alderman after supporting a controversial redevelopment proposal, using eminent domain to acquire homes to build a gas station. In March 2011, Bauer defeated incumbent 24th Ward alderman Bill Waterhouse in the Democratic primary, but lost to independent candidate Scott Ogilvie in the April general election.
Tishaura Oneda Jones is an American politician who has served as the mayor of St. Louis, Missouri since April 2021. A member of the Missouri Democratic Party, Jones served from 2008 to 2013 in the Missouri House of Representatives; and as Treasurer of the City of St. Louis from 2013 to 2021.

This off-year election featured gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey, as well as state legislative elections in both houses of the New Jersey Legislature and in the Virginia House of Delegates. Numerous citizen initiatives, mayoral races, and a variety of other local elections also occurred. Special elections were also held for one seat of the U.S. Senate, representing Alabama, and six seats of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Democrats picked up the governorship in New Jersey and the Alabama Senate seat that was up for a special election. The governorship in Virginia and the six House seats that were up for special elections did not change party hands.

The electoral history of Tishaura Jones spans more than a decade. A member of the Democratic Party, Jones was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2008. In 2012, she was elected as Treasurer of St. Louis, a position she has since held through various elections and primaries. Jones ran for Mayor of St. Louis in 2017, but came in second to Lyda Krewson in the Democratic primary; Krewson would later win the general election and become the city's first female mayor. In 2020, following her election to a third term as treasurer, Jones announced she would once again run for mayor in the 2021 election, which was the city's first to use approval voting. Jones won that election over St. Louis Alderwoman Cara Spencer and will be the 47th Mayor of St. Louis.
