The 2023 Kansas City mayoral election was held on June 20, 2023, to elect the mayor of Kansas City, Missouri. Incumbent Democratic mayor Quinton Lucas ran for re-election to a second term in office. He was re-elected for a second term with a landslide victory. [1] [2]

Incumbent Republican Governor Mike Parson ran for and was elected to a full term in office. Before his election, Lucas was a private practice lawyer, community leader, city council member, and a lecturer on law at Washington University. He was also a volunteer instructor at prisons in New York and Kansas, where he taught courses on constitutional law.

The Democratic Party retained control of the governorship in Kentucky, flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court and held a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, gained six seats in the New Jersey General Assembly, and won back unified control of the Virginia General Assembly, while Republicans also flipped the governorship in Louisiana and narrowly retained Mississippi's governorship. The election cycle also saw Ohio voting to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and legalize cannabis for recreational use. The results were widely seen as a success for the Democratic Party.
