The 2023 Virginia elections took place on November 7, 2023. All 40 seats of the Virginia Senate and 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates were up for election, as are many local offices.

2023 Virginia's 4th congressional district special election

A special election was held on February 21, 2023 to fill Virginia's 4th congressional district for the remainder of Democrat Donald McEachin's term, who died on November 28, 2022, of colorectal cancer. [1] The Democratic nominee Jennifer McClellan won the special election. [2]

Virginia's 24th House of Delegates district

An election was held on January 10, 2023, to fill Virginia's 24th House of Delegates district, following the death of Republican incumbent Ronnie R. Campbell on December 13, 2022, due to cancer. [3]

Virginia's 35th House of Delegates district

An election was held on January 10, 2023, to fill Virginia's 35th House of Delegates district, following the resignation of Democratic incumbent Mark Keam on September 6, 2022, to become Deputy Assistant Secretary for Travel and Tourism within the International Trade Administration. [4]

An election was held on January 10, 2023, to fill Virginia's 7th Senate district, following the resignation of Republican incumbent Jen Kiggans on November 15, 2022, to become a U.S. Representative. [5] Democrat Aaron Rouse, an at-large Virginia Beach City Council member since 2018, narrowly defeated Republican Kevin Adams, a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and small business owner. [6] With the election of Rouse, the district was flipped from Republican to Democratic control.

New state legislative maps took effect on January 11, 2023, at the start of 2023 legislative session; however, this special election took place under previous district lines.

Mark Lee Keam is a Korean American lawyer. He is a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates in the United States. A Democrat, Keam represented the 35th District, which encompassed a portion of Fairfax County, including the town of Vienna, Virginia, where he resides. He resigned his seat on September 6, 2022, to take a position in the Biden administration.

Virginia's 24th House of Delegates district elects one of 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. District 24 represents the cities of Buena Vista and Lexington; counties of Bath and Rockbridge; and parts of Amherst and Augusta counties. Benjamin L. Cline held this seat until his 2018 election to Virginia's 6th congressional district. In a Republican firehouse primary, Rockbridge supervisor Ronnie Campbell won the Republican nomination by one vote. Christian Worth won the Democratic nomination. The 2019 Virginia House of Delegates election was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, concurrently with the elections for the Senate of Virginia, to elect members to the 161st Virginia General Assembly. All 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates were up for election. It resulted in Democrats gaining 6 seats in the House of Delegates, and gaining control of both chambers of the General Assembly, marking the first time that Democrats held control of both legislative and executive branches in Virginia since 1993.

Ronnie Ray Campbell was an American politician who served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, first elected in a special election in 2018. Campbell represented the 24th district comprising Rockbridge and Bath Counties, parts of Amherst and Augusta Counties, and the independent cities of Lexington and Buena Vista.

The seat became vacant after incumbent Democrat Donald McEachin died on November 28, 2022, of colorectal cancer. State Senator Jennifer McClellan was declared the victor shortly after the polls closed, winning in a landslide against her Republican opponent.

On January 10, 2023, voters in the 7th district of the Virginia Senate voted in a special election to fill the seat left vacant by Republican Jen Kiggans, the previous incumbent, who had resigned on January 3, 2023, after having being elected to Congress the preceding November. New state legislative maps took effect on January 11, 2023, at the start of 2023 legislative. However, this special election took place under previous district lines. As a result of the redistricting process, the 7th district became the 22nd district in November,. Final official vote tallies were not released until January 13 because mail-in ballots were accepted after election day if postmarked for January 10. Democrat Aaron Rouse, an at-large Virginia Beach City Council member and former professional football player defeated Republican Kevin Adams, a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and small business owner.
