Alalak River is a tributary of the Barito River which flows in South Kalimantan, precisely at the Barito estuary between Banjarmasin City and Barito Kuala Regency. This river flows in North Banjarmasin and Alalak districts. [1] It has a length of 10,707.939 meters with a width of 100 meters. [2]
This is the river where the endangered Berangas language is spoken, which was once the dominant language before being replaced by Banjarese language. [3]
South Kalimantan is a province of Indonesia. It is the second most populous province on the island of Kalimantan, the Indonesian territory of the island of Borneo after West Kalimantan. The provincial capital was Banjarmasin until 15 February 2022 when it was legally moved 35 kms southeast to Banjarbaru. The population of South Kalimantan was recorded at just over 3.625 million people at the 2010 Census, and at 4.07 million at the 2020 Census. The official estimate as at mid 2023 was 4,221,929. One of the five Indonesian provinces in Kalimantan, it is bordered by the Makassar Strait in the east, Central Kalimantan in the west and north, the Java Sea in the south, and East Kalimantan in the northeast. The province also includes the island of Pulau Laut, located off the eastern coast of Kalimantan, as well as other smaller offshore islands. The province is divided into 11 regencies and 2 cities. South Kalimantan is the traditional homeland of the Banjar people, although some parts of East Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan are also included in this criterion. Nevertheless, South Kalimantan, especially the former capital city Banjarmasin has always been the cultural capital of Banjarese culture. Many Banjarese have migrated to other parts of Indonesia, as well as neighbouring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. In addition, other ethnic groups also inhabit the province, such as several groups of the Dayaks, who mostly live in the interior part of the province, as well as the Javanese, who mostly migrated from Java due to the Transmigration program which dated from the Dutch colonial era. It is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has a larger population than Mongolia.
Banjarmasin is the largest city in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. It was the capital of the province until 15 February 2022. The city is located on a delta island near the junction of the Barito and Martapura rivers. Historically the centre of the Banjarese culture, and the capital of the Sultanate of Banjar, it is the biggest city in South Kalimantan and one of the main cities of Kalimantan. The city covers an area of 98.46 km2 (38.02 sq mi) and had a population of 625,481 as of the 2010 Census and 657,663 as of the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid 2023 was 675,915. It is the third most populous city on the island of Borneo.
Malang, historically known as Tumapel, is an inland city in the Indonesian province of East Java. It has a history dating back to the age of the Singhasari Kingdom. It is the second most populous city in the province, with a population of 820,043 at the 2010 Census and 843,810 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 847,182. The Malang Metropolitan area was home to 3,663,691 inhabitants in 2010, spread across two cities and 22 districts. Malang is the third largest city by economy in East Java, after Surabaya and Kediri, with an estimated 2016 GDP at Rp. 44.30 trillion.
Samarinda is the capital city of the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan on the island of Borneo. The city lies on the banks of the Mahakam River with a land area of 718 km2 (277 sq mi). Samarinda was one of Indonesia's top ten Most Liveable Cities in 2022, ranks first on East Kalimantan Human Development Index and it is the most populous city on the entire Borneo island, with a population of 727,500 at the 2010 Census and 827,994 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 861,878. Samarinda is East Kalimantan's largest exporter and fifth-largest importer. The city has the highest number of bank headquarters in East Kalimantan.
Palangka Raya is the capital and largest city of the Indonesian province of Central Kalimantan. The city is situated between the Kahayan and the Sabangau rivers on the island of Borneo. As of the 2020 census, the city has a population of 293,500; the official estimate as at mid 2024 was 310,182. Palangka Raya is the largest city by land area in Indonesia ; however, most of the area is forested including protected forests, nature conservation areas, and Tangkiling Forest.
Negara Daha was a Hindu kingdom successor of Negara Dipa that appears in the Hikayat Banjar. It was located in what is now the Regency of Hulu Sungai Selatan, Province of South Kalimantan, Republic of Indonesia.
Banjarbaru is the capital city of South Kalimantan, one of the provinces in Indonesia. It is located 35 km (22 mi) southeast of Banjarmasin, the largest city of the province. The city had a population of 199,627 as of the 2010 Census, and 253,442 at the 2020 Census, and the official population estimate was 272,763. The large town of Martapura lies immediately to the north of Banjarbaru, and in effect constitutes an extension of the city. The second largest city in the province after Banjarmasin, it is also part of Banjarbakula metropolitan area.
The Barito River is the second longest river in Borneo, Indonesia after the Kapuas River with a total length of 1,090 km (680 mi) and a drainage basin of over 80,000 km2 (31,000 sq mi) in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. It originates in the Müller Mountain Range, from where it flows southward into the Java Sea. Its most important affluent is the Negara and Martapura, and it passes through the city of Banjarmasin.
The Banjar or Banjarese is an Austronesian language predominantly spoken by the Banjarese—an indigenous ethnic group native to Banjar regions— in the southeastern Kalimantan of Indonesia. The Banjarese language is the de facto lingua franca for various indigenous community especially in South Kalimantan, as well as Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan in general.
Barito Kuala Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan. It is situated in the southwest of the province, bordering Central Kalimantan province to its immediate west and separated from Banjarmasin city to its east by the lower reaches of the Barito River. The regency's land area is 2,996.46 km2, and the population was 276,147 at the 2010 Census and 313,021 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate was 324,502. The capital is the town of Marabahan. The Motto of the Regency is "Selidah".
Kutai Kartanegara Regency is a regency of East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. It has a land area of 27,263.10 km2 and a water area of 4,097 km2, geographically located between 1°18′40″S and 116°31′36″E. The population of the regency was 626,286 at the 2010 Census and 729,382 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 788,113. The town of Tenggarong is the capital of the regency.
Aji Pangeran Tumenggung Pranoto Airport, also known as APT Pranoto Airport or Samarinda Airport, is an airport serving Samarinda, the provincial capital city of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is in the village of Sungai Siring at the North Samarinda district, close to the border with Muara Badak. The airport is also colloquially known as Sungai Siring Airport, to distinguish it from its predecessor, the now-closed Temindung Airport. The airport is named after Aji Pangeran Tumenggung Pranoto, the first governor of East Kalimantan who was in office from 1957 to 1961.
Bakumpai or Baraki are indigenous people of Borneo and are considered as a sub-ethnic group of the Dayak Ngaju people group with Islamic background. The Bakumpai people first occupy along the Barito riverbanks in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, from Marabahan to Puruk Cahu, Murung Raya Regency. The Bakumpai people first appeared as a newly recognized people group in census 2000 and were made up of 7.51% of Central Kalimantan population, which before this the Bakumpai people were considered as part of the Dayak people in a 1930 census.
The Martapura River is a river in southeast Borneo, Indonesia. It is a tributary of the Barito River. Other names for the river are Banjar Kecil River or Kayutangi River and due to many activities of Chinese merchants in the past in the downstream area also called China River. It merges with the Barito River in Banjarmasin, flowing from the source in Martapura, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan.
The Kapuas River is a river in the Indonesian part of Borneo island. It originates in the Müller Mountain Range at the center of the island and flows south until merging with the Barito River and discharging into the Java Sea. It should be distinguished from another Kapuas River, which starts on the other side of the same mountain range in central Borneo but flows to the west and empties to the South China Sea.
South Barito Regency is a regency in Central Kalimantan province of Indonesia. On 10 April 2002 the eastern districts were split off to create a new East Barito Regency, while the residual South Barito District has an area of 7,020 km2. The regency seat is located in the town of Buntok, located in South Dusun district. The population of South Barito Regency was 124,128 at the 2010 Census and 131,140 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 134,698.

It has an area of 5,072.11 km2, and at the 2023 estimate had a population of 1,526,061
Sei Alalak Bridge is a curved cable-stayed bridge in South Kalimantan province of Indonesia. The bridge, which has length of 850 meters, crossing the Alalak river in Alalak District, Barito Kuala Regency, and connecting the regency through the main Trans-Kalimantan Road towards Banjarmasin city.
Medan Malay is a dialect of Malay language used by the multi-ethnic people of Medan City, especially Deli Malays ethnic. This dialect is derived from Deli Malay. This aspect is based on the many similarities in grammar and vocabulary with Deli Malay.
Berangas language (Barangas) or Berangas Dayak is an endangered or extinct Barito language spoken in North Alalak village in Banjarmasin and East Berangas village in Barito Kuala, South Kalimantan. The number of speakers is decreasing, most of them are switching to Banjarese language, and a small number to Bakumpai language, while assimilating their ethnicity to Banjarese people.
