The South American U20 Championships in Athletics are the South American championships in the sport of athletics which is open for those in the U20 age category (19 years or under). It is organized by the South American Athletics Confederation (Atletismo Sudamericano).
The competition was first held in 1959 in Buenos Aires. It was an annual event from its inaugural year until 1962, at which point it was held every two years. The championships became an annual event again over the period between 1983 and 2003, but reverted to a biennial format from then onwards. [1] [2]
Medals are awarded for individuals and relay team members for the first three places in each event.
Trophies are awarded to teams in each category (male and female) with the highest total number of cumulative points in the entire competition. In addition, a trophy will be given to the country for the overall title.
A trophy is also presented to both a male and a female athlete for the most outstanding performance. [3]

The South American Cross Country Championships is an annual continental cross country running competition for athletes from South America or, more specifically, member countries of CONSUDATLE. It was first held in 1986, making it the oldest of the continental cross country championships. The event is typically held in late February or early March.
The Ibero-American Championships in Athletics is a biennial athletics competition for athletes representing Ibero-American countries as well as a number of other Spanish- or Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa. The competition is organised by the Asociación Iberoamericana de Atletismo.
The Grande Prêmio Brasil Caixa de Atletismo is an annual athletics event in São Paulo, Brazil as part of the World Athletics Continental Tour. It was first organized in 1985, held at the Estádio Ícaro de Castro Melo, São Paulo. From 1998 to 2009 IAAF classified the Grande Prêmio Brasil Caixa de Atletismo among IAAF Grand Prix meetings. From 2010 to 2019 it was part of the IAAF World Challenge.
Ana Cláudia Lemos Silva is a Brazilian track and field athlete who competes in sprinting events. She is the former South American record holder in the 100 metres (11.05 seconds) and the current (2017) record holder in the 200 metres (22.48 seconds). She also was part of the team that broke the 4×100 metres relay continental record with a time of 42.29 seconds.
The 32nd South American Junior Championships in Athletics were held in São Leopoldo, Brazil at the University of Unisinos Track club from October 7–8, 2000. Athletes from Portugal were invited to participate as guests.
The 36th South American Junior Championships in Athletics were held at the Estadio Municipal Jorge Newbery in Rosario, Argentina from October 1–2, 2005.
The 37th South American Junior Championships in Athletics were held at the Estádio Ícaro de Castro Melo in São Paulo, Brazil from June 30-July 1, 2007. The Champions for men's 10,000m, both Race Walking and Combined Events were extracted from the classification of the 2007 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships held at the same site one week later from July 6 to July 8, 2007. A detailed report on the results was given. Best performances were the two South American Junior records by Alonso Edward from Panamá in 10.28s in the men's 100m competition, and Jorge McFarlane from Perú who achieved 13.76s (0.0 m/s) in the first heat in 110m hurdles men.
The 38th South American Junior Championships in Athletics were held in São Paulo, Brazil in the Estádio Ícaro de Castro Melo from July 25–26, 2009. The Champions for men’s 10,000m, both Race Walking and Combined Events were extracted from the classification of the 2009 Pan American Junior Championships held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago in the Hasely Crawford Stadium from July 31 to August 2, 2009. The 39th South American Junior Championships in Athletics were held in Medellín, Colombia in the Estadio Alfonso Galvis Duque from September 23–25, 2011. A detailed report on the results was given.
The 20th South American Youth Championships in Athletics were held in Santiago, Chile at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos from October 9–10, 2010. A detailed report on the results was given.
The 2012 South American Under-23 Championships in Athletics were held in São Paulo, Brazil, at the Estádio Ícaro de Castro Melo from 22 to 23 September 2012. They were the 5th edition of the competition, organised under the supervision of the CONSUDATLE. A detailed report on the results was given. Brazilian shot putters Geisa Arcanjo who achieved 18.43m in the women's event, and Darlan Romani who achieved 19.93m in the men's event, were awarded the title for the best performance of the event.
The 40th South American Junior Championships in Athletics were held from October 18–20, 2013 at the Estadio Jaime Zapata in Resistencia, Chaco, Argentina.
The 2007 South American Cross Country Championships took place on February 25, 2007. The races were held at the Centro de Treinamento da Marinha in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A detailed report of the event was given for the IAAF.
Javier Arturo Mc Farlane Olazábal is a Peruvian track and field athlete who competes mainly in the 110 metres hurdles and long jump. He holds the Peruvian National Record for 110 metres hurdles with 13.52 seconds.
