The TCR Middle East Touring Car Series is a touring car racing series based in the Middle East.

History

On 15 November 2016, WSC announced that the creation of the TCR Middle East Series. The series was officially launched on 2 December 2016 at the Bahrain International Circuit, where a media and test day were held. The series visits the Dubai Autodrome, Yas Marina Circuit and the Bahrain International Circuit. [1] [2]

Relaunch

In August 2022, the TCR Middle East Series was relaunched by WSC in cooperation with its new promoter, Driving Force Events. A 2022-2023 schedule was published and included two pairs of back-to-back events at Yas Marina Circuit, the Bahrain International Circuit and the Dubai Autodrome, plus another event at a yet-to-be-confirmed venue. Unlike previous iterations of the TCR Middle East Series, the relaunched championship will feature hour-long races with mandatory driver changes as well as some night races. [3]

The Bahrain International Circuit is a 5.412 km (3.363 mi) motorsport venue opened in 2004 and used for drag racing, GP2 Series, and the annual Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix. The 2004 Grand Prix was the first held in the Middle East. Beginning in 2006, Australian V8 Supercars raced at the BIC, with the event known as the Desert 400. However, the V8 Supercars did not return for the 2011 V8 Supercar season. 24 Hour endurance races are also hosted at BIC. The circuit has a FIA Grade 1 license. The Yas Marina Circuit is the venue for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke, and is situated on Yas Island, near Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Yas Marina was the second of four Formula One tracks in the Middle East, with the first being in Bahrain and subsequent tracks in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. A two-day GP2 Asia Series test was held to officially open the circuit, which was held a week before the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It also hosted the opening event for the Australian V8 Supercars series, the Yas V8 400, in February 2010. Outside motorsport the circuit was used for the final stage of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Tour cycle race in 2015. The circuit has an FIA Grade 1 license.

Axcil Ramar Jefferies is a Zimbabwean professional racing driver and senior race instructor at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. He currently holds the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record in the GT3-class with a time of 7:50.370 which he set in a Konrad Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán GT3.

Starting in the 2016–17 season, the all new Formula 4 UAE Championship was launched by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile, and its national affiliate the Automobile & Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates (ATCUAE), who acted as the championship's promoter. Currently, the series is governed by the Emirates Motorsport Organisation (EMSO) and promoted by AUH Motorsports.

The 2017–18 Formula 4 UAE Championship was the second season of the Formula 4 UAE Championship, a motor racing series for the United Arab Emirates regulated according to FIA Formula 4 regulations, and organised and promoted by the Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) and AUH Motorsports.

The 2018 TCR Middle East Series season was the second season of the TCR Middle East Series. The championship started at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on 19 January and ended at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir on 24 February. Josh Files and Liqui Moly Team Engstler were the defending drivers' and teams' championships respectively.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">TCR Touring Car</span> Touring car racing specification

A TCR Touring Car is a touring car specification, first introduced in 2014 and is now employed by a multitude of series worldwide. All TCR Touring Cars are front-wheel drive cars based on 4 or 5 door production vehicles, and are powered by 1.75 to 2.0 litre turbocharged engines. While the bodyshell and suspension layout of the production vehicle is retained in a TCR car, and many models use a production gearbox, certain accommodations are made for the stresses of the racetrack including upgraded brakes and aerodynamics. Competition vehicles are subject to Balance of Performance adjustments to ensure close racing between different vehicles.

The 2019 TCR Middle East Series season was the third season of the TCR Middle East Series. The series will be promoted by Creventic and Dubai Autodrome.

The 2020 TCR Middle East season was set to be the fourth season of the TCR Middle East Series. The series was to be promoted by Creventic. The championship was set to start at Dubai Autodrome in Dubai on 9 January and end at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on 17 January.

FIA ETCR – eTouring Car World Cup is a touring car series for electric cars. During the inaugural season in 2021, the series called itself Pure ETCR and featured cars from three manufacturers competing at five different locations. Starting with the 2022 season, ETCR becomes an official FIA series.

The 2021 Asian Le Mans Series was the ninth season of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest's Asian Le Mans Series. It is the fourth 24 Hours of Le Mans-based series created by the ACO, following the American Le Mans Series, the European Le Mans Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship. The four-event season began at the Dubai Autodrome in Dubai on 13 February 2021 and ended at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on 20 February 2021.

For the first time, a bronze rated driver is mandatory in each class and only the bronze drivers can participate in qualifying.

The TCR World Tour is an upcoming international touring car championship. The championship will be promoted by WSC Group Ltd, which was founded by former World Touring Car Championship manager Marcello Lotti.
