The following article outlines the statistics for the 2014 FIFA World Cup , the 20th FIFA World Cup, comprising 32 nations and which took place in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July. The FIFA World Cup is a quadrennial tournament of men's national football teams. The 32 teams were divided into groups of four and played a round-robin tournament at the end of which, the top two teams from each group entered the knockout stage, played as a single-elimination tournament. Germany won the final, beating Argentina 1–0 after extra time to claim their fourth World Cup title.
Teams qualify for the world cup through participating in their nation's specific region related football competitions. Each region has an allocated number of nations that can participate in the global competition and take place between each consecutive world cup. The region specific entities are: UEFA for European nations, CONMEBOL for South American nations, CONCACAF for North American nations, CAF for African nations, AFC for Asian nations and OFC for Oceanic nations. In some instances, matches between nations from different continents may occur (FIFA World Cup qualification).
